Working Pattern: Monday to Saturday, with one day off during the week

Hours: 6:00 AM - 2:30 PM (40 hours per week)

Pay: £12.40 per hour (equivalent to £29,016 per annum)

A quick look at the role: We are looking for a safety-conscious and proactive Waste Handling Operative to support Biffa's on-site waste management operations at Bettys & Taylors in Harrogate. This role involves collecting, transporting, and sorting waste and recyclable materials from across the site, playing a key part in our drive for sustainability and operational efficiency.

Your Core Responsibilities:

  • Collecting, transporting, and safely handling waste and recycling from production areas around the site
  • Sorting, stacking, baling, compacting, and loading materials into skips, trailers or containers
  • Operating machinery such as balers, compactors, forklifts, telehandlers and pallet trucks (full training provided)
  • Maintaining clean and safe waste collection areas and ensuring high housekeeping standards
  • Liaising with site staff and the Biffa team to coordinate timely and effective waste disposal
  • Completing daily paperwork including safety checks, audits and waste tracking

Requirements:

  • A valid Forklift Truck licence (essential)
  • A strong focus on safety and willingness to follow procedures and wear full PPE
  • A team-player attitude with good communication skills and reliability
  • Flexibility and a willingness to carry out additional tasks as needed
