A quick look at the role.

We’re looking for an Environmental Compliance Officer to join our team at the Biffa West Sussex MBT plant. You’ll ensure operations meet all environmental regulations, focusing on monitoring, assessing, and reporting compliance to maintain high sustainability standards and minimise environmental impact.

Your core responsibilities.

  • Carry out inspections, audits, and monitoring of air, water, waste, noise, and digestate to ensure compliance.
  • Keep up to date with UK environmental legislation and ensure plant operations meet all requirements.
  • Manage permits, registrations, and accurate reporting of environmental performance.
  • Lead environmental impact assessments and develop risk mitigation strategies.
  • Deliver training and promote awareness of environmental policies and best practices.
  • Respond to incidents, investigate causes, and implement corrective actions.
  • Support and improve the Environmental Management System (EMS) to drive sustainability.
  • Work with stakeholders, including regulators, communities, and engineering teams, to optimise compliance and odour control.

Our essential requirements.

  • NEBOSH Environmental Management (or working towards).
  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in environmental science, engineering, or related field (Desirable)
  • Experience of working in waste management and/or anaerobic digestion plants.
  • Laboratory experience with solid/liquid sampling and testing procedures.
