The Area Operations Manager is a key, hands-on managerial role, offering a broad scope of responsibilities and the opportunity to make a meaningful impact on the performance of an important PPP contract. Based in the Argyll & Bute region, the successful candidate will take ownership of the day-to-day operations across three sites, ensuring the delivery of contractual diversion targets in line with council requirements and within agreed budget parameters.
Leading by example, you will champion a Safety First culture, create a secure and compliant working environment, and adhere to all Company SHEQ policies and standards. You will drive performance through effective use of daily and visual management tools, ensuring contract targets are consistently achieved. In addition, you will play a pivotal role in enhancing team morale and capability by fostering engagement, supporting development programmes, and implementing succession planning. A strong focus on process improvement and problem-solving will be essential to building a high-performing, resilient operation.
Key responsibilities- Ownership of site budgets, including plant and maintenance costs, overtime etc.
- Overseeing the compliant operation of three sites based in the Lorn, Mid-Argyll and Kintyre area of Argyll & Bute.
- Achieve contract targets by driving daily and visual management ethos through performance management metrics and dashboards across the sites.
- Develop process orientation and problem-solving skills across the sites.
- Deliver and exceed on objective and development plans assigned ensuring dashboard metrics are updated daily/weekly/monthly.
- Daily management of team members on the three sites ensuring tasks are appropriately apportioned to maximise efficiency, reduce OT and reduce downtime.
- Budget experience, including plant and maintenance costs, overtime etc.
- COTC Qualified (Managing Transfer Hazardous Level 4, Managing Treatment Non-Hazardous Level 4, Managing Landfill Non-Hazardous Level 4 qualified – Training will be given if not qualified).
- People engagement skills with an assertive and fair management style.
- Strong execution skills on deliverables with high levels of emotional intelligence, compliance and integrity.
- Previous exposure to the waste industry is desirable for this role.
- Lean sigma experience including 5S is desirable.
