Location: Redcar

Salary: £48,987.12 per annum (£22.43 per hour, plus 2% shift allowance)

Hours of work: 4 x 12 hour day shifts, followed by 4 days off (7am – 7pm)

A quick look at the role: We are looking for an experienced Engineering Shift Supervisor to lead and support the engineering function at our Redcar facility. This is a hands-on supervisory role, responsible for ensuring plant reliability, maximising operational uptime, and driving engineering standards across the site.

The successful candidate will oversee day-to-day maintenance activities, coordinate planned and reactive engineering tasks, and provide leadership to the engineering team to ensure all work is completed safely, efficiently and to a high standard. You will play a key role in promoting a proactive engineering culture, improving site performance, and ensuring compliance with health, safety and environmental standards.

Your core responsibilities:

  • Supervise and coordinate engineering and maintenance activities across the site.
  • Drive plant availability through effective planned preventative maintenance and reactive maintenance management.
  • Support and lead the engineering team during breakdowns, ensuring faults are diagnosed and resolved efficiently.
  • Ensure engineering tasks are completed safely and in line with company procedures and compliance standards.
  • Identify recurring faults and implement long-term engineering solutions and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Monitor engineering performance and support the development of best practice across the site.
  • Liaise with external contractors and suppliers regarding specialist repairs and maintenance activities.
  • Support engineering planning, permit systems and maintenance scheduling.
  • Promote high standards of housekeeping, health & safety and environmental compliance at all times.
  • Provide leadership, guidance and support to engineers and site operatives where required.

  • NVQ Level 3 Engineering qualification, electrical bias preferred.
  • Previous experience within a supervisory or lead engineering role in an industrial or production environment.
  • Strong background in maintaining production machinery and equipment.
  • Experience fault finding on PLCs, VSDs and relay logic circuits.
  • Good understanding of planned preventative maintenance systems.
  • Strong communication and team leadership skills.
  • A proactive approach to continuous improvement and problem solving.
