Based at Edinburgh Airport, this is a 3 months fixed term contract position offering £13.70 per hour for 40 hours per week. Working days include Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Saturday, and Sunday (working days can be slightly flexible) from 3:00pm to 12:00am.
A quick look at the role: We’re looking for a proactive and reliable Waste Recycling Officer to support waste and recycling operations at Edinburgh Airport. This hands-on role plays a key part in improving recycling efficiency, reducing contamination, and supporting sustainable waste management across the site. Working closely with the Account Director and airport staff, you’ll help ensure waste is correctly segregated, processed, and managed safely and efficiently.
Your core responsibilities include:
- Collecting and transporting waste from landside holding areas to the main waste yard.
- Sorting waste streams to maximise recycling levels and minimise contamination.
- Operating waste compactors and baler machinery to produce high-quality bales (full training provided).
- Maintaining cleanliness and organisation across waste holding areas and the waste yard.
- Completing daily equipment and operational checks.
- Loading and unloading service vehicles safely and efficiently.
- Supporting airport staff with guidance on correct waste segregation and recycling practices.
- Carrying out additional duties as required, including waste audits, confiscated waste disposal, and replacing signage or container labels.

- Full UK driving licence.
- Ability to work independently in a fast-paced operational environment.
- Strong awareness of health and safety procedures.
- Reliable, proactive, and able to use initiative.
- Good communication skills and ability to work with a variety of stakeholders.
- Comfortable with manual handling duties.
- Flexible approach to ad-hoc tasks and operational requirements.
- Previous experience within waste, recycling, logistics, or operational environments would be advantageous.
