A quick look at the role:
The Transport Manager will efficiently and effectively manage a fleet of 20+ vehicles. The role will also manage the day-to-day operations of the Traffic Office, ensuring health and safety, environmental and operator licence compliance, along with delivering first-class customer service.
Your core responsibilities:
- Leadership & Performance Monitoring: Provide leadership and deliver clear work instructions to traffic dispatchers, drivers, and operatives. Review depot KPIs and drive improvements in service, safety, and profitability.
- Fleet Management: Manage vehicle operations, ensuring safe usage, wheel security, and compliance with gross weight limits. Liaise with the fleet team for seamless operations.
- Legislative Compliance: Ensure adherence to transport and environmental legislation, including managing third-party insurance claims.
- Cost Control & Efficiency: Support cost control initiatives, drive operational efficiency, and focus on reducing costs to exceed budget expectations.
- Health & Safety: Enforce Health and Safety protocols, including near miss reporting and emergency procedures. Review near-miss reports to maintain a first-class customer experience.
- Administrative Excellence: Complete all role-related administrative tasks, including worksheets and tachograph records.
- Customer Relationships: Build and maintain strong relationships with both internal and external customers through proactive communication.
Our essential requirements:
- Extensive Industry Expertise: Proven experience in traffic or logistics management, including resource management, cost control, and operational leadership within unionised, multi-shift environments.
- Knowledge & Compliance: In-depth understanding of transport, environmental, and health and safety legislation, with strong knowledge of lean methodology and KPIs.
- Skills & Qualifications: National CPC, strong commercial acumen, excellent communication and planning abilities.
- Flexibility & Area Knowledge: Familiarity with the local area and willingness to travel for business needs across the UK.
