We’re looking for a Group Fire Safety Manager to lead fire risk reduction across Biffa. You’ll be our in-house expert, shaping strategy, driving compliance, and embedding best practice to keep people and operations safe. This role will suit an experienced fire safety professional looking to make a significant impact in an industry where fire is an increasing risk to life and property. You will report directly to the Group Health & Safety Director and work with the full support of the Biffa Executive team to help reduce the likelihood and severity of fires.
Key responsibilities
- Be the driving force behind the Biffa Fire Policy Group
- Develop and implement fire risk identification and control strategies
- Drive continuous improvement projects to reduce fire risk
- Ensure the Fire Management System meets BS9997 standards
- Act as the focal point with our Primary Authority and represent Biffa on industry forums
- Oversee fire safety training and promote awareness across the business
- Support investigations into serious fire incidents and share lessons learned
Essential criteria
- Level 3 Fire Safety qualification (e.g., NEBOSH or IFE Certificate)
- Member of the Institution of Fire Engineers (IFE)
- Extensive fire safety management experience at strategic and operational levels
- In-depth knowledge of UK fire safety legislation and life safety systems
- Strong communication, stakeholder management, and presentation skills
- Valid driving licence and willingness to travel nationally
