Training Supervisor Monday - Friday (Overtime available flexible hours including optional weekend cover)

Shift Start Time: 06:00 - 14:15 (Flexible working on request if required by management)

You will carry out training for drivers, loaders, operatives and supervisors at Biffa’s recycling and waste management contracts in Manchester, ensuring that employees are fully equipped to carry out their roles. You will have previous experience in a training role or be an experienced driver in the waste management industry, or another service industry. You’ll also need a Category C entitlement on your driving licence and be experienced at driving different types of vehicles. This is a vital role in supporting Biffa’s health and safety-focused culture.

Your core responsibilities:

  • Operational Support: Assist depots in achieving Vehicle Gate Check, Crew Monitoring, and Route Risk Assessment targets. Mentor staff by addressing and correcting unsafe or non-compliant behaviours observed during checks. Report major vehicle cleanliness or condition issues to the Business Manager.
  • Training Delivery: Deliver all training to a consistently high standard, aligned with Group Training Standards and contractual obligations. Tailor content to meet contract specifications and operational needs.
  • Driver Coaching & Compliance: Coach drivers to improve skills, reduce accidents, and prevent Operator Licence contraventions. Alert Business Managers when drivers fall below competency requirements.
  • Depot-Based Training (DBT): Conduct training on key operational practices, including: Wheel torquing, Manual handling, Vehicle defect checks, In-cab PDA usage, Tachographs/logbooks, Driver debriefs.

Our essential requirements:

  • LGV Category C (Class 2) Driving Licence
  • Valid Driver CPC (Certificate of Professional Competence)
  • Working knowledge of transport and other relevant legislation
  • Previous waste or service industry experience
  • Knowledge and understanding of the requirements of working within a time critical-service environment
  • IT literate – comfortable using business software and systems and Microsoft Office Suite
  • Excellent time management skills and ability to work to tight deadlines
