A quick look at the role.
Biffa is seeking an Engineering Project Manager to join the Group Engineering team. You will work independently and with project teams to deliver diverse waste infrastructure projects, from drainage solutions to new waste transfer stations. This role is ideal for someone in environmental consultancy looking to move to the client side and apply their expertise to project delivery.
This is a Monday to Friday role, with occasional nights away from home.
You can work remotely, manage your own diary but this role will require frequent national travel.
Responsibilities
Your core responsibilities.
- Provide technical construction knowledge to the project team.
- Work closely with operations to ensure the scope is clear and understood.
- Procuring of consultant design services, and working with operations and designer to ensure value engineer and innovation is incorporated at the design stage.
- Procuring of contractors to deliver the work, including specification, tender review, project delivery and compliance with H&S, planning and permitting legislation.
- Manage internal and external stakeholders and consultants for project delivery.
- Ensure and promote strong health and safety leadership and delivery throughout the works, from inception to completion.
- Regular site visits and lead the construction phase of the workings, integrating with other engineering disciplines as required.
Qualifications
Our essential requirements.
- Degree in environmental or construction engineering, with a strong track record of delivering projects on time, within budget, and to specification in the waste or related sectors.
- Experience working with planning and regulatory bodies, with solid knowledge of environmental permitting, planning regulations, and site investigation considerations.
- Strong understanding of contract procurement and administration, particularly NEC and IchemE forms of contract.
- Excellent problem-solving and workload prioritisation skills, with the ability to manage multiple tasks effectively.
- Good knowledge of health and safety legislation, including CDM regulations and practical site-based H&S practices.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office and Microsoft Project, with prior experience in the waste management industry preferred.
