Bidwells’ Land and Development Team delivers a first-class service in providing a comprehensive development consultancy and land agency service for landowners and developers across the South East and wider UK. This is an exciting new opportunity for a personable, commercially minded Senior Surveyor to play an integral client-facing role, focusing primarily on undertaking Professional Services work i.e. development consultancy projects, including valuations of development land, development feasibility, and financial viability assessments. This role will mainly be based in the Oxford office with some work in Milton Keynes, as well as agile working options.
What you’ll be doing
- Valuations of development land with and without planning permission, for acquisition and disposal purposes.
- Preparation of Financial Viability Assessments (FVAs) and related viability advice in connection with planning applications for residential and mixed-use developments.
- Affordable Housing payment in lieu calculations.
- Development feasibility assessments to inform design.
- Assist on other projects including strategic land setup, monitoring and agency instructions.
- Be a trusted advisor and primary contact for clients, developing strong relationships and engagement, understanding their requirements and adapting with their changing needs, and providing regular updates.
- Support business development initiatives, such as attending/hosting/networking at events.
- Foster internal relationships and collaboration.
- Assist in identifying new opportunities and winning new business with both new and existing clients and cross-selling other Bidwells services.
- Contribute content on development issues for publications, social media, press, and working with the marketing and wider teams to increase exposure as well as help improve other marketing activities and collateral.
- Be a mentor for all team members and provide guidance and assistance, support training, as well as coach graduates.
- Help identify team resource issues and opportunities, and support team growth where required.
- Maintain standards, processes and legal compliance and help drive improvements and efficiencies.
About you
Essential:
- Ideally MRICS qualified or working towards it.
- Experience of undertaking development appraisals and valuations of multimillion pound projects.
- Experience working in a development consultancy role and/or working for developers and/or landowners would be preferable.
- Good working knowledge of development economics.
- Good analytical skills – ability to analyse a broad range of markets and uses, including both commercial and residential property.
- Report writing skills.
- Team player attitude.
- Good interpersonal skills – to manage and communicate with colleagues and clients.
- Ability to manage workload and prioritise projects on a day-to-day basis.
These elements would be a bonus but are not essential:
- Negotiation and business development skills.
- Knowledge of UK planning legislation, development finance and construction processes.
- Understanding of financial modelling of mixed-use development projects.
- Experience of working on projects proposing rental forms of residential (BTR, PBSA, Co Living etc).
- A RICS Registered Valuer.
