What you’ll be doing

An opportunity to lead and shape high-impact net zero and decarbonisation projects with involvement in industry-leading research and innovation initiatives. We are seeking a Low Carbon & Decarbonisation Consultant to join our growing Sustainability team and part of a wider collaborative, multidisciplinary environment. This role offers the opportunity to contribute to the delivery of sustainability and net zero strategies, sustainable and low carbon building design, and large-scale portfolio decarbonisation and electrification programmes across a diverse asset class.

You will play a key role in supporting clients across the public sector, commercial, and education portfolios, combining technical expertise with strategic advisory to deliver impactful, future-ready solutions. Project Delivery

  • Lead the development and delivery of low carbon and net zero strategies across new build and existing assets.
  • Deliver and oversee decarbonisation and energy transition programmes, retrofit strategies, and low carbon design across large and complex building portfolios.
  • Technical capability across TM52 and TM59 overheating assessments and TM54 operational energy analysis.
  • Undertake and review technical modelling and analysis, including dynamic thermal modelling (energy, ventilation, overheating – TM52 / TM59) and operational energy modelling (TM54, NABERS where applicable).
  • Lead the production of planning and technical documentation including energy and sustainability statements and portfolio and asset level energy transition strategies.
  • Contribute towards wider sustainable design advice including environmental assessments e.g. BREEAM, HQM, WELL, whole life carbon reports, circular economy statements, and ESG/sustainability strategies.
  • Delivery of net zero whole life carbon objectives across projects.

Project & Team Management

  • Take ownership of large-scale projects, ensuring delivery to programme, budget, and quality standards.
  • Monitor project expenditure, resources, and performance, reporting regularly to team leadership.
  • Lead and facilitate client and design team workshops, communicating complex information clearly.

Client Engagement & Business Development

  • Act as a trusted advisor to clients, providing strategic sustainability and decarbonisation guidance.
  • Contribute to work-winning activities, including bid writing, fee proposals, and scope definition.
  • Identify opportunities for business growth, supporting client relationship development.
  • Engage with industry bodies and regional initiatives, contributing to the firm’s external profile.

Innovation & Industry Contribution

  • Contribute to research and development initiatives, helping drive innovation and technical excellence.
  • Support the development of internal knowledge sharing and best practice.
  • Engage with the wider industry through guidance, thought leadership, and collaboration.

About you

  • Strong experience within sustainability or building physics consultancy.
  • Experience working across public-sector, commercial, education, or mixed-use portfolios.
  • Decarbonisation strategies and energy transition programmes.
  • Building performance and Part L modelling and energy analysis.
  • Sustainability certifications and compliance strategies.
  • Strong technical capability across energy modelling (IES-VE, TAS, DesignBuilder or similar), Part L compliance, EPCs, SBEM/SAP, and CIBSE guidance (TM52, TM59, TM54).
  • Strong understanding of UK planning and regulatory requirements.
  • Excellent communication, report writing, and stakeholder engagement skills.
  • Strong organisational ability, with experience managing multiple projects and deadlines.
  • A proactive, collaborative mindset with a passion for sustainable design and innovation.
  • Commitment to continuous professional development and industry engagement.
  • NABERS UK or in-use energy modelling (Highly desirable).
  • Embodied carbon analysis and net zero carbon strategies (Highly desirable).
  • Whole life carbon and circular economy strategies (Highly desirable).
  • BREEAM certification (Highly desirable).
  • Degree in Environmental Design, Building Physics, or related discipline (Highly desirable).
  • Ideally Chartered or working towards professional accreditation (e.g. CIBSE LCC) (Highly desirable).
