If so, the Planning team at Bidwells are looking for a dynamic and visionary individual to join our team. This role can be based in either London, Cambridge, Norwich, Oxford or Milton Keynes. This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced Renewables professional, currently working in the planning sphere, to work for one of the UK’s largest and fastest growing planning consultancies embedded within a leading independent property consultancy.
The successful candidate will be integral to the building and success of a National Renewables Planning team. This newly created Planning leadership role, situated within our town planning consultancy business will provide valuable services to support or advise on renewable planning strategy, promotions, and major renewable infrastructure applications. With the support and investment of the business, the Bidwells Renewables Planning team will provide a comprehensive service to a range of landowners, promoters, and energy developers across the renewable technologies, including wind, solar and battery storage.
The successful candidate, already active in this sector, will grow this planning service to provide renewable planning advice to developers and landowners by way of appraisals and statements, planning applications, and appeals. We see this role fully aligning with our growing ESG capabilities as the drive towards net zero targets heightens, the need for sustainable development is paramount. This role will fully align with our ever-growing, well-established Climate department, which specialises in Energy and Renewables projects working alongside landowners and developers, natural capital, forestry and sustainable investment. The Head of Renewables Planning will provide an enhanced offering to our clients regarding all the projects our Climate team undertake.
Some of the core aspects of this role include:
- Head up and develop the Renewables Planning team.
- Develop and maintain a portfolio of professional renewable energy planning instructions.
- Carry out professional instructions for a range of clients: public, private, developers and landowners.
- Target new prospects for new business and grow the Renewables Planning team offer.
- Implementation of the agreed business development plan.
- Responsible for the development of the Renewables Planning team, leading promotion and business development.
- Identify opportunities for introduction of work to other internal departments, particularly the Energy & Renewables Department.
- Take responsibility for the efficient delivery of key areas of the service across the Planning Department, carrying out research where necessary and communicating the outcomes.
- Maintain an up-to-date understanding of other teams and departments and the services they offer to support the identification of business opportunities.
- Maintain regular contact with key members of other teams and departments.
- Support and deliver strategies for sharing clients and client intelligence across teams and departments.
About you:
- Member of the RTPI
- Current experience in a Renewables Planning Partner or Director role
- Senior leadership and management experience
- Degree in planning-related/renewables discipline
- Experience of Nationally Significant Infrastructure Projects (NSIPs)
- Experienced in developing new business
- DCO experience is desirable
- IT proficiency, particularly with the MS Office package
- Full UK driving licence
