A fantastic opportunity has arisen within Bidvest Noonan for CCTV Control Room Officer, who will work at our client’s prestigious premises in London.

The National Theatre .

Our security roleisn’t for the faint hearted, it breaks the norm and requires a unique person to drive this service, represent a globally recognised brand and lead an empowered, professional, and energetic team across the entire Estate.

Duties as a Control Room Operator

The role of Control Room Operator is vital to the effective management of the National Theatre. The operator is the eyes and ears of the security team and controllers should be proactive and flexible. While on duty there should be at least one operator in the control room always monitoring the CCTV. Operators are to conduct daily checks of all site cameras and escalate faults as identified and recorded in the handover report. Proactive patrols of the estate utilizing CCTV is to be conducted whenever possible. The Operator is to have a good understanding of data protection issues and legislation regards the use of CCTV. All operators are to be in possession of a current SIA CCTV licence while on duty. Officer should have a good understanding of how to operate the CCTV system including downloading and storing footage for evidence.

Other duties of the control room officer are:

  • Incident Notifications – The estate employs the use of a mass notification system to inform people of incidents taking place on the estate. It is the controller’s responsibility to ensure that any incident is escalated to the relevant estate management members immediately
  • Staffing – At the start of every shift, the control room compile and distribute the ‘Daily Attendance Sheet’, this information is used to ensure all employees are paid correctly and notifies the scheduling team of any absences
  • Phone calls – The control room can be the first point of contact for anyone wishing to speak to any of the estate team or make a general enquiry
  • Handover – At the end of each shift a written handover is to take place with the off going and oncoming shifts to ensure that all information is passed on correctly
  • Helpdesk – Should a fault be reported to the control room by any of the security team it is to be added to the Helpdesk ASAP. This should also be recorded on the handover
  • Key control – It is the control room operator’s responsibility to manage the issue of keys. All keys issued are to be logged in the relevant book ensuring the details placed in the book are correct
  • Incident Management – Although the Supervisor may take a lead in any incident on site the Control room operators will support or even manage the whole incident more effectively. Controllers should work closely with the Supervisor and where possible anticipate the requirements and distribute support accordingly
  • Access Control – The control room employ two separate access control systems; operators are to ensure they have a good understanding of how to operate and run reports on both systems
  • Administration – Operators are to always ensure the control room is clean and tidy with all folders uniform and kept up to date. SOPs for the control room should be continually reviewed and updated
  • Visitors – All visitors to the Control Room are to book in and out using the system provided. All controllers will need to have knowledge of how this system works as it is also used for audits
  • Radios – Operators are to ensure that radios are checked for serviceability when handed in, any faults or damage should be reported, and the radio taken out of service. Radio batteries are to be put on charge when returned

Requirements as a Control Room Operator

To be successful in this role you will hold a valid SIA CCTV and DS Licence and have an impeccable level of English both written and spoken. You will also need to be customer focused with the ability to remain calm in emergencies and dealing with customers. The ability to work in a team is also essential, along with the ability to work unsupervised.

Additionally, you will have a competent level of IT skills. Previous security experience would also be beneficial.
