This trainee teacher post sits in the English & Maths department at Warwickshire College Group, within its in-house teacher development programme. It is a permanent full-time role in which the trainee teaches a rising load of hours over three years while completing teaching qualifications. Support comes from an assigned mentor and a teaching buddy, with dedicated non-contact time for CPD. Entry needs a degree and a Level 3 in English, and visa sponsorship is not available.
What the job involves
- Deliver Maths teaching on a three-year progression of 15, 18 then 21 teaching hours a week
- Complete the Award in Education and Training in Year 1, then the Diploma in Teaching in Years 2 and 3
- Develop teaching materials and course paperwork, including planning, assessment, schemes of work and records
- Work closely with an assigned mentor from the Advanced Practitioner team
- Collaborate with a designated teaching buddy from the Literacy and Numeracy team
- Take part in a cross-college peer support and reflection group
- Use non-contact time for CPD, shadowing, team teaching and updating subject knowledge
- Carry out administrative tasks for taught programmes and college requirements under the line manager or Head of School
- Engage with college quality processes, including annual lesson observations
- Follow health and safety responsibilities under the HASAW Act and college policy
- Safeguard and promote the welfare of children and at-risk adults
Qualifications
- Qualification at degree level
- Minimum Level 3 qualification in English or a related subject
Skills & knowledge
- Strong administrative skills, including IT skills
- Willingness to undertake the courses needed for a teacher training qualification
- Willingness to undertake continuing professional development
