Newly qualified paediatric nurse posts in paediatric services at Royal Derby Hospital and Queen's Hospital Burton, for University Hospitals of Derby and Burton NHS Foundation Trust, open to graduates qualifying by March 2027. The job centres on a structured preceptorship that supports the move from student to registered practitioner across clinical areas. Posts are full or part time and include nights and weekends to provide 24-hour cover. Applicants need an NMC PIN or to be working toward one, and those qualifying after March 2027 will not be considered.
What the job involves
- Practise as a newly registered paediatric nurse within the preceptorship programme
- Develop the knowledge and skills needed to move from student nurse to qualified practitioner
- Work flexibly, including nights and weekends, to provide 24-hour cover
- Manage clinical workload and prioritise tasks
Registration & licences
- NMC PIN, or working toward one before or by March 2027
Experience
- Experience in an acute UK hospital environment, which can include training placements
Skills & knowledge
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to work effectively in a team and independently
- Competence in IT applications such as clinical systems, Word and Outlook
- Strong organisational skills and ability to prioritise tasks
- Evidence of managing clinical workload
- Ability to problem solve and analyse and interpret information before making decisions

- Ability to work flexibly, including nights and weekends, to provide 24-hour cover
