This Medical Laboratory Assistant post sits in the Histology Department of Derbyshire Pathology at the Royal Derby Hospital, which is run by University Hospitals of Derby and Burton NHS Foundation Trust. The work centres on sample handling support, data entry and filing, stock and equipment upkeep, and tissue handling and chemical disposal. The service runs Monday to Friday 07:30 to 19:30 with Saturdays on a rolling five-week roster, serving around 50,000 sample requests a year. Laboratory experience is not required, as training is given in-house.
What the job involves
- Assisting senior staff with sample handling

Qualifications
- GCSE English, Science and Maths, or NVQ Level 2 Clinical Laboratory Support

Skills & knowledge
- Knowledge of IT software systems
