The Specialist Prosthetist joins Cardiff and Vale University Health Board’s prosthetic service at Rookwood Hospital. The role covers assessment and treatment, prosthetic prescriptions, caseload management and ongoing care. It serves adults and children, including people with complex needs, and offers an Annex 21 development pathway for candidates not yet meeting all Band 6 competencies. The post is full time and requires a relevant degree or equivalent and current HCPC registration.
What the job involves
- Assess and treat patients with routine and complex prosthetic needs
- Manage a prosthetic caseload, prioritising work effectively in line with clinical needs and departmental skill mix
- Take professional and legal responsibility for own work and manage patients as an autonomous specialist practitioner
- Use suitable measurement and data acquisition methods to record information accurately for prosthetic prescriptions
- Use medical devices safely and competently in line with Medical Device Regulations
- Provide individualised assessment, issue, maintenance and repair of prosthetic devices, and ongoing clinical care
What’s required
Qualifications
- BSc Honours degree in Prosthetics/Orthotics or equivalent qualification
Registration & licences
- Current HCPC registration
Experience
- Significant post-registration clinical experience across a broad range of prosthetic service provision
Nice to have
- Membership of BAPO
- Ability to speak Welsh
