We have an exciting opportunity for an experienced and dynamic Animal Science, Conservation and Associated Enterprises Manager to lead our licensed, award-winning Wildlife and Conservation Park and associated commercial enterprises.
This important role sits at the heart of our Animal Management, Conservation and Environmental provision, supporting learners across Further Education at York and Wakefield, Higher Education, Inclusive Learning, King's Trust programmes, Veterinary Nursing and a growing portfolio of commercial and professional training. The successful candidate will play a key role in a sector leading teaching zoo environment, where learners develop real-world skills within a professional, compliant and conservation focused setting.
We are seeking an individual with strong industry credibility and leadership experience within animal science, conservation, zoological or related sectors. The role will provide strategic and operational leadership for the licensed and commercial aspects of the Wildlife and Conservation Park, Dog School, Boarding and associated enterprises.
Working closely with curriculum teams, the postholder will ensure the facilities operate as outstanding educational resources, delivering high-quality learner experiences while meeting all relevant welfare, licensing and legislative requirements. A clear focus on conservation, research, commercial sustainability and sector engagement will be central to the role.
The successful candidate will lead and develop the Wildlife and Conservation Park as a modern, compliant and forward-thinking establishment, balancing educational delivery with commercial, conservation and research priorities. They will work collaboratively across curriculum, estates and professional services teams, while acting as a key external representative for the Park, building partnerships that enhance reputation, learner opportunity and industry relevance.
Candidates will bring substantial professional experience within animal science, conservation, zoological collections or a closely related field. A strong understanding of licensing, welfare standards and regulatory frameworks is essential, alongside experience of leading teams, managing budgets and working within complex operational environments.
Experience of working with learners, trainees or early-career professionals is highly desirable, as is a commitment to developing facilities as high-quality learning environments.
