MetroWest Medical Center, part of the Massachusetts Group, has 229 beds located on two campuses in Framingham and Natick, Massachusetts. Key Service Lines include Cardiology, Behavioral Health, and Women’s Services. MetroWest Medical Center has received various quality recognitions and awards. Services include 24-hour Emergency Department, Advanced cardiac care, comprehensive surgical treatments, advanced maternity care, and a behavioral health specialty center.
The Chief Nursing Officer provides strategic leadership as the senior executive responsible for all nursing and designated patient care functions and services within the hospital. The role includes assessing, planning, coordinating, implementing and evaluating nursing practice at the facility level, with 24/7 accountability to ensure high quality, safe and appropriate nursing care, competency of clinical staff, and resource management. The CNO represents nursing concerns on the governing board and medical staff leadership meetings.
- Retaining Great People at the Facility: Collaborate with human resources and other team members to select, onboard, orient, and coach direct reports. Evaluate and monitor facility-level people pillar statistics; participate on related calls as necessary. Consider and/or implement nurse residency programs to ensure pipeline for the facility. Collaborate to enhance work life balance and a safe work environment based on zero tolerance for harassment/violence/abuse. Promote a robust facility-level competency program and employee development across the career continuum. Develop recruitment and retention strategies and participate in workforce planning to ensure adequate, competent staffing. Support competitive compensation and benefits programs.
- Communication and Relationship Building: Communicate effectively with internal and external constituents including staff, colleagues, and physicians. Administer human resource programs in accordance with policies; manage relationships with trust and collaboration; address conflict constructively. Provide timely feedback and reinforce positive behaviors.
- Leadership Influence: Create and communicate a compelling shared vision; develop strategies for organizational priorities. Monitor performance expectations and balance cost, quality and service; promote a results-oriented environment. Develop succession planning for nursing leadership and coach aspiring nurse leaders. Represent nursing and patient care in governance, strategic planning and quality initiatives; educate board members and physicians about the value of nursing care.

- Academic Relationships: Support nursing education, advise and collaborate with nursing programs, and align educational systems with organizational needs.
- Resource Management: Understand organizational revenue, expenses and capital planning; manage resources cost-effectively; optimize patient care processes for revenue.
- Quality, Patient Safety and Risk Management: Contribute to performance improvement and patient safety programs; monitor quality metrics and participate in safety initiatives; promote a non-punitive culture and reporting of unsafe practices.
- Information Management and Technology: Support EMR adoption, demonstrate technology competency, and use data to improve practice; participate in system change processes and evaluate information systems in practice settings.
- Service: Monitor service indicators; educate employees about service; facilitate physician and employee satisfaction surveys and action plans.

At least five years of progressive management experience in a facility environment as an Associate Chief Nursing Officer or Nursing Director of multiple, complex nursing departments. Strong interpersonal and communication skills; proven leadership and operational expertise; ability to mentor and develop staff. Active RN license in state of practice; master’s degree in Nursing or related field preferred; CENP or NEA certification preferred; travel about 25%.
Base pay: $160,000-$250,000 annually; bonus eligibility 10%-50% depending on role level; sign-on/relocation bonuses may apply. Benefits include medical/dental/vision etc., 401k, paid holidays, and other voluntary benefits.
Travel: Approximately 25% travel; a Motor Vehicle Records check may be required.
