We warmly welcome you to our busy and dynamic team, which delivers a comprehensive and specialised Ophthalmology service to a population of over 750,000. Our team boasts highly experienced specialists in Medical Retina, Cornea, Paediatrics, Neuro‑Ophthalmology, Glaucoma and Oculoplastics. We are supported by efficient, innovative and well‑led Nursing, Orthoptic and Optometrist teams.

Main duties of the job:

  • To provide high‑quality clinical care to our patients and ensure that the departmental vision is maintained in line with National and Local policy.
  • This role requires a highly skilled and experienced Medical Retina doctor, who will have continuing responsibility for the care of patients in their charge and under the care of consultant ophthalmologists within the medical retina service.
  • Work with the Medical Retina consultants to look at innovative ways to improve the service we provide for our patients.

Person specification:

  • MBBS / MRCS / FRCS or equivalent medical qualification.
  • Meet the criteria set out in the Specialist Grade Generic Capabilities Framework.
  • In‑depth knowledge and experience in managing Medical Retina and Emergency patients.
  • Good leadership and organisational, communication, professional and personal skills.
  • Higher Degree (MD/PhD).
  • Experience of and commitment to teaching undergraduate and postgraduate medical staff.
  • Experience of audit and management.
