An exciting opportunity has arisen for a candidate interested in a 12-month fixed-term locum consultant haematologist post at Barking, Havering & Redbridge University Hospitals NHS Trust.
Main duties of the job:
- You will provide a weekly new patient clinic, a weekly lymphoma clinic and a weekly AML/MDS clinic.
- You would be expected to attend the weekly malignant MDT.
- There is the opportunity to develop your own interest.
- A commitment to attend ward patients is required. This is undertaken on a 2-week block rolling rota shared with other consultants.
- Full ward rounds will be undertaken twice a week when you are allocated to ward cover, with daily reviews required for new admissions and unstable patients.
- During weeks off ward cover, the dedicated full ward-round time will be allocated SPA time.
- You will have designated time to support the laboratory, the primary care advice and guidance which are also undertaken on a rolling rota.
- We have an active local interest in maintaining diagnostics expertise through in-house reporting of bone marrows and weekly morphology review meeting.
- If you wish, you can have the opportunity to participate in this diagnostic service, although this is not mandatory.
- There is a dedicated in-house haematological histopathologist.
- Barts Health provides the SIHMDS.
- You will be expected to attend and participate in the weekly morphology meeting and core medical trainee and specialist haematology trainee teaching programme in addition to being a clinical supervisor for junior doctors.
- You will have the opportunity to be an educational supervisor if you wish.
- You will be expected to participate in the on-call rota (overnight weekday and weekends) on a 1:6 cover.
Qualifications and Experience:
- MRCP / FRCPath or equivalent
- Full and Specialist registration and a license to practice
- Holder of Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT) or CCT date is within six months of interview
- Fully competent in bone marrow aspirate and biopsy, lumbar puncture
- Understand and be competent at management of all aspects of general and malignant haematology
- Experience of teaching and supervision of medical students and trainees
- Formal training in management
- Evidence of having undertaken audit work that has brought about change
