The Band 7 Deputy Service Manager will support the smooth and effective operational management of the Gastroenterology & Endoscopy service at Queen’s Hospital Romford. The role involves working closely with the Service Manager, Specialty Manager and clinical teams in a high‑performing, fast‑paced service.

Contract: 12‑month fixed term (secondment)

Location: Queen’s Hospital, Romford

Hours: Full time – 37.5 hours per week

Salary: £53,751 – £60,651 per annum (inclusive of standard allowances)

Closing date: 30 November 2025

Main duties:

  • Monitor performance and support delivery of national targets (DM01, RTT, FDS).
  • Coordinate and support the annual JAG accreditation requirements.
  • Lead the collection and submission of JAG audit data.
  • Provide operational oversight and support to the Hepatology service.
  • Contribute to service planning, capacity and demand work, and pathway improvement across Upper GI and Hepatology.
  • Assist with clinical governance, complaints, risks and incident management.
  • Line‑manage administrative staff and ensure full compliance with Trust HR policies.
  • Coordinate key meetings, prepare reports and support financial monitoring of cost centres.
  • Maintain clear communication with multidisciplinary teams and remain calm under pressure to meet deadlines.

Key qualities and experience:

  • Highly organised, proactive, able to manage competing priorities.
  • Confident communicator, able to build effective working relationships across multidisciplinary teams.
  • Experience in healthcare operational or service management (desirable).
  • Skilled in problem‑solving, service improvement and data analysis.
  • Strong communications skills; able to organise and prioritise own workload.

Person specification – Education / Qualifications:

  • Degree level education or equivalent experience.
  • Experience in healthcare operational or service management (desired).
  • Knowledge of JAG accreditation processes and audit methods beneficial.
