We are looking for a lawyer or advocate who is interested in taking on a mixed case load of Public Law and private law children work. We would be interested in hearing from individuals who are looking for a role either as an employee or as a consultant.

Responsibilities

  • To act for clients, and work on their matters, in line with the firm’s policies and procedures defined in the Office Manual/Handbook relating to your areas of work, and in line with professional competencies and obligations, as per professional bodies including the SRA and Law Society, but also to include other regulatory bodies (as appropriate).
  • Arranging and attending appointments for current and former clients and dealing with their queries including: obtaining instructions and advising on course(s) of action, length and cost of case (as appropriate).
  • Assessment of client’s financial means and explanation of Public Funding or Private terms and conditions where applicable.
  • Attending clients at Court.
  • Drafting and/or dictating correspondence to client, court, other solicitors, counsel and other third-parties, including Statements, Notices, Applications, and other legal forms/documents for production/preparation by administrators or paralegals.
  • Undertaking Court advocacy where appropriate and necessary.
  • Instructing counsel, experts, solicitor advocates or other third-parties, reviewing reports and continued liaison as required.
  • Arranging hearings and conferences.
  • Obtaining and reviewing evidence and statements.
  • Negotiation on client’s behalf and, liaison with opponents, judges, etc. to obtain most preferable outcome for clients.
  • Ensuring efficient day-to-day progress of all matters, prioritising work as necessary and keeping the client informed on progress.

To ensure that all Legal Aid work carried out meets or exceeds the requirements of the LAA’s Standard Contract, the SRA’s Standards and Regulations and meets Quality Mark standards. To record all work carried out accurately and appropriately on the firm’s time recording system. To undertake appropriate business development for the firm.

Qualifications

  • Qualified Solicitor, CILEX (with rights to conduct litigation) or barrister.
  • Completed LPC or equivalent.
  • Completed a degree or equivalent qualification.
