We are currently looking for a Trainee Yard Operative to join our busy Builders Merchant yard in Carnwath. This is an excellent opportunity for someone looking to start a career in a hands-on, practical environment. You will receive full training while supporting the smooth running of the yard, assisting with materials handling, stock control, and customer service. This is a varied, fast-paced outdoor role where you will learn all aspects of yard operations, working as part of a supportive team and developing valuable skills for the future.
Key Responsibilities- Support the loading and unloading of building materials for customers
- Assist customers with enquiries and direct them to the correct products or staff
- Learn how to pick and prepare customer orders accurately and efficiently
- Help receive, check, and store incoming deliveries
- Assist with preparing materials for dispatch, including labelling and packaging
- Receive training to operate forklifts, pallet trucks, and other yard equipment
- Carry out basic stock control and assist with inventory checks
- Help maintain a clean, organised, and safe yard environment
- Report damaged goods, shortages, or equipment faults to supervisors
- No previous yard experience required – full training provided
- Willingness to learn and develop new practical skills
- Comfortable with manual handling and working outdoors in all weather conditions
- Good communication skills and a positive attitude
