An opportunity has arisen for a paralegal to join our busy Public Law & Community Care team based in Nottingham City Centre.
Job Purpose
- Advise and represent clients.
- Maintain efficiency and profitability of the Department.
- Progress with a view to securing a recognised period of training (formerly known as a training contract).
- Undertake fee-earning responsibilities to support principal caseworkers.
- Undertake legal research, drafting of proformas and Court documents as necessary.
- Support senior caseworkers working on progression and management of case files.
- Act as fee earner undertaking tasks delegated by senior caseworkers.
- Comply with SQM (Specialist Quality Mark) and all internal transaction criteria and procedures.
- Assist and participate with training initiatives taken by the firm.
- Act as “next friend” and promote training initiatives of new recruits and promoted staff.
- Comply with the firm’s Office Manual.
- Maintain client confidentiality and legal professional privilege.
- Actively promote office relations with clients, their families and potential new clients (public relations).
Person Specification – Essential
- Good oral and written communication skills.
- Confident demeanour.
- Grasp of legal procedures, court protocol and rules of evidence.
- Ability to record meticulously.
- Computer or ICT familiarity.
Person Specification – Desirable
- Ability to attract clients and referrals.
- Understanding of costs awareness.
- Successful completion of or undergoing part time LPC or SQE qualification.
- Work within practice, industry supplemental to academic training.
- Previous experience in either a legal or non-legal client facing capacity is desirable but not essential.
- Experience of the legal aid system is preferred but not required.

This is a full time, office-based position. Office hours are Monday to Friday 9 a.m to 5.30 p.m with 1 hour for lunch. Salary is National Living Wage, currently £23,809.50 due to rise in line with legislation from 1st April 2026.
