One of the UK’s leading Quantity Surveying and Estimating firms is looking for a full‑time estimator to work from our Northampton office. The firm has grown rapidly over the past few years through innovation and customer service and has significant growth plans for the coming years. Responsibilities
- Carry out take‑offs, bills of quantities, cost plans and tenders for contractors, sub‑contractors, developers and private clients.
- Set up estimating files upon receipt of enquiries, both electronically and on paper, and complete any further filing/addendums as required.
- Maintain archives and an enquiry quotation register per contract.
- Interface with all supply chain members, suppliers and subcontractors, from enquiry to contract award.
- Chase supplier, sub‑contractor and manufacturer quotations.
- Complete estimating tasks independently and provide support to colleagues and the accounts team during peak periods.
- Answer incoming telephone calls, take messages or redirect as appropriate.
- Undertake any other general support and administrative duties as required from time to time.
Experience / Knowledge
- Possible PQS background.
- Possible main contractor background.
- Experience in a similar estimating role.
- Experience taking off and pricing residential projects.
- Experience in taking off and estimating new residential builds.
- Familiarity with SMM7, NRM3 and major measurement methods.
- Conversant with all major forms of contract, particularly JCT.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office, especially Excel.
- Experience using other estimating software.
- Team player ready to work in a small local consultancy firm.
Candidate Qualifications
- Good understanding of the Building industry.
- Highly organised, with strong planning and prioritisation skills.
- Analytical, accurate and detail‑oriented.
- Excellent communication skills, able to build and maintain working relationships.
- Computer literate and able to work under pressure.
- Preferable experience working with a comparable house builder.
- Capacity to control multiple projects simultaneously.
- Strong negotiation skills for a fast‑paced environment.
- First‑class time‑management abilities.
- Practical team player with a hands‑on style.
- Excellent written and oral communication.
- Attention to detail.
