Enterprise Technology Architect (Infrastructure) in London

This role is pivotal in defining, aligning, optimising, and assuring that the business outcomes of our change portfolio are achieved and aligned with our strategy and vision. The ideal candidate will be solely responsible for architecture partnering with our senior leaders and leading design and assurance of our technology platforms such as Cloud, Infrastructure, Networking and End User Compute supporting and realised via our significant investment portfolio of projects and continuous improvement ensuring that we are resilient by design, commercially appropriate and future fit. This role requires a deep understanding of IT Infrastructure, including Cloud principles, technologies, and best practices to support all our critical and non-critical systems, users and processes to continue to operate and add value to our business run and grow agendas equally.

Responsibilities

• Strategy and Transformation
  • Contribute to the definition and evolution of the enterprise infrastructure vision, goals, and objectives, identifying and executing opportunities to maximise business value through modern infrastructure capabilities.
  • Actively shape and respond to emerging business and technology trends (e.g., hybrid cloud, edge computing, automation), ensuring infrastructure strategies are aligned with long-term business transformation goals.
  • Support executive decision-making by providing insight into the long-term implications of infrastructure investments, ensuring scalability, resilience, and cost-effectiveness.
  • Develop and maintain actionable infrastructure roadmaps that transition from current to future states, embedding principles such as “infrastructure as code,” automation, and “cloud-first” where appropriate.
  • Collaborate with senior business and technology leaders (e.g., CIO, IT Directors, Heads of IT) to identify strategic opportunities for infrastructure innovation and operational excellence.
• Architecture Development
  • Develop and implement enterprise infrastructure architecture frameworks and strategies that are executable, scalable, and aligned with business and IT objectives.
  • Design and oversee the deployment of core infrastructure services, including compute, storage, networking, cloud platforms, and data centre operations.
  • Collaborate with solution architects, DevOps, and platform teams to ensure infrastructure is integrated across the delivery lifecycle, supporting agility, security, and performance.
  • Maintain awareness of emerging infrastructure technologies and assess their potential impact on the enterprise architecture landscape.
  • Define and maintain current, transitional, and target states of infrastructure architecture, enabling the business to realise value through modern, efficient, and resilient platforms.
  • Promote shared infrastructure services and platforms to reduce duplication, optimise costs, and ensure alignment with enterprise-wide strategies.
• Architecture Management and Governance
  • Champion the value of enterprise infrastructure architecture across the organisation, educating stakeholders on its role in enabling business agility and operational efficiency.
  • Ensure infrastructure solutions and designs comply with enterprise architecture principles, standards, and policies, including those related to security, performance, and sustainability.
  • Establish and maintain a comprehensive infrastructure architecture knowledge base, including blueprints, roadmaps, standards, reusable patterns, and best practices.
  • Lead or participate in Architecture Review Boards and Design Authorities, managing exceptions and ensuring alignment with target and transitional infrastructure architectures.
  • Monitor and govern the lifecycle of infrastructure assets, ensuring they remain fit-for-purpose, cost-effective, and aligned with evolving business needs.

The Individual

• Technical Experience
  • Extensive experience designing and implementing enterprise-scale infrastructure solutions across hybrid environments, including on-premises data centres and public cloud platforms (e.g., Azure, AWS).
  • Deep understanding of infrastructure technologies including compute, storage, networking, virtualisation (e.g., VMware, Hyper-V), and containerisation (e.g., Kubernetes, Docker).
  • Proficiency in infrastructure automation and orchestration tools such as Terraform, Ansible, PowerShell DSC, and Azure Resource Manager (ARM) templates.
  • Strong knowledge of cloud infrastructure architecture and services, particularly within Microsoft Azure (e.g., Azure Virtual Network, ExpressRoute, Azure Firewall, Azure Monitor).
  • Experience with enterprise networking concepts and technologies, including SD-WAN, load balancing, DNS, DHCP, and IPAM.
  • Familiarity with infrastructure governance, cost optimisation, and operational management frameworks (e.g., Azure Well-Architected Framework, FinOps).
  • Hands-on experience with monitoring, observability, and logging platforms (e.g., Dynatrace, Azure Monitor, Prometheus, Grafana, Splunk) to ensure performance, availability, and resilience.
  • Experience implementing high availability, disaster recovery, and business continuity strategies across critical infrastructure components.
  • Knowledge of infrastructure compliance and regulatory requirements (e.g., ISO 20000, ITIL, PCI-DSS) and how they influence infrastructure design and operations.
  • Practical experience with infrastructure security principles, including network segmentation, identity and access management, and secure configuration baselines.

• Education & Qualifications
  • Relevant professional infrastructure or cloud architecture certifications (e.g., Microsoft Certified: Azure Solutions Architect Expert, AWS Certified Solutions Architect – Professional, VMware VCAP, Cisco CCNP/CCIE).
  • Certified to TOGAF Level 2 or equivalent enterprise architecture framework (e.g., Zachman, FEAF) is desirable.
  • Proven experience in a similar role within enterprise infrastructure architecture, with a strong track record of delivering complex, scalable, and secure infrastructure solutions.
  • Degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, or a related discipline (or equivalent professional experience).
  • ITIL Foundation or higher-level certification desirable, demonstrating understanding of service management principles in infrastructure operations.
  • Familiarity with industry standards and frameworks such as COBIT, ISO 20000, and the Azure Well-Architected Framework.
