We are seeking a skilled and proactive Building Services Engineer to join our team at BGIS. In this role, you will be responsible for maintaining optimal office environmental conditions and ensuring the smooth operation of all mechanical and electrical (M&E) systems. You will monitor and manage the Building Management System (BMS), respond to reactive maintenance requests, and carry out planned preventative maintenance (PPM) to keep our facilities running efficiently. This is a hands-on position that requires strong technical knowledge, problem-solving skills, and the ability to work collaboratively with colleagues, subcontractors, and client representatives.
KEY DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
- Monitor and manage the BMS to maintain acceptable internal conditions.
- Lead investigations into environmental conditions, system failures, and faults.
- Carry out PPM and reactive maintenance on M&E plant and equipment.
- Diagnose and resolve issues with air conditioning, UPS, generators, and LV systems.
- Ensure compliance with health and safety procedures, including permits to work.
- Maintain accurate records in the maintenance system (e.g., Maximo) and complete all required documentation promptly.
- Supervise subcontractors and ensure work meets BGIS standards.
- Keep plant rooms secure, clean, and well-organized.
- Support continuous improvement initiatives and proactively identify areas for enhancement.
KNOWLEDGE & SKILLS
- Formal training in mechanical systems (City & Guilds or NVQ equivalent), ideally with a focus on HVAC or plumbing.
- Strong understanding of heating, ventilation, air conditioning systems, and associated controls.
- Experience in maintaining and repairing pumps, valves, pipework, and other plumbing components.
- Ability to diagnose and resolve faults in mechanical plant, including chillers, boilers, and air handling units.
- Familiarity with Building Management Systems (BMS) for monitoring and troubleshooting environmental conditions.
- Good knowledge of health and safety practices, including permits to work and risk assessments.
- Excellent communication skills and basic IT proficiency for updating maintenance records.
