Job Summary: As a member of the BGIS Sustainable Cleaning Solutions Team, you will be generally responsible for cleaning in a designated zone with an emphasis on quality control, health and safety & striving to exceed client expectations.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Functioning as a core member of the operational team and reporting to the Manager/Supervisor.
  • Clean floors by sweeping, scrubbing, or vacuuming.
  • Dry/wet mop (wash/scrub) and polish hard surface floors.
  • Strip and finish hard surface floors manually or with power equipment.
  • Steam clean or shampoo carpets when required.
  • Transport garbage from drop points to garbage bins or compactor.
  • Transport maintenance machinery, where necessary, between floors and job sites.
  • Cleans and stores equipment and machinery used.
  • Cleans glass areas requiring ladders, scaffolding or other extension equipment to reach.
  • Cleans washroom floors including stripping and finishing.
  • Cleans stairwells and elevator cabs where ladders are required.
  • Loads and unloads supplies and replenishes cleaning solutions.
  • Follow procedures for the use of chemical cleaners and power equipment to prevent damage to floors and fixtures.
  • Notify managers concerning the need for major repairs or additions to building operating systems.
  • Remove snow and debris from sidewalks, driveways, or parking areas, using snowplows, snow blowers, or snow shovels, or spread snow melting chemicals when required.

Job Requirements:

  • Experience in performing various cleaning, housekeeping and maintenance activities in an institutionalised environment.
  • Experience in using floor maintenance machines, cleaning equipment, materials, and solutions.
  • Knowledge of the Occupational Health and Safety Act and the provisions that apply to this work including WHMIS.
  • Ability to lift, push and pull heavy items as well as climb ladders.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to maintain cooperative working relationships with staff, clients, and the general public.
  • Ability and willingness to work weekends, holidays, and shifts as assigned as well as work in multiple locations.
  • Ability to follow verbal and written instructions, prepare and maintain manual and electronic records.

Licenses and/or Professional Accreditation:

  • Must meet security clearance requirements, where applicable.
  • Must have a valid Class G license (may be required).
