The Foot Mobile Maintenance Engineer will carry out planned preventative maintenance, reactive repairs, and building services support across a portfolio of sites within walking distance of Oxford Street and surrounding areas. The role requires a strong understanding of mechanical and/or electrical systems, with the ability to respond quickly to faults, maintain plant equipment, and uphold excellent service standards across client buildings.
Key Responsibilities:
- Carry out routine PPM tasks across mechanical and electrical plant in accordance with site schedules and asset lists.
- Complete reactive maintenance and breakdown tasks, proactively identifying areas for improvement, including fabric-related jobs and concessionary store requests.
- Oversee subcontractor activities, ensuring they meet contractual requirements and operate safely while on site.
- Operate the Permit to Work system in line with BGIS Quality, Health & Safety procedures and client expectations.
- Diagnose and remedy plant faults and defects quickly to maintain serviceable equipment.
- Ensure appropriate spares are available for both maintenance and reactive works; provide parts lists and estimated timelines for remedial tasks.
- Complete all required paperwork for reactive, PPM, and breakdown works and submit promptly to the contract administrator.
- Prepare and use Method Statements and Risk Assessments to ensure safe working practices.
- Maintain strong working relationships with BGIS staff, subcontractors, and client representatives.
- Maintain a safe and healthy working environment, including correct use of uniform and PPE at all times.
- Present a professional and positive image of BGIS to clients at all times.
- Ensure plant rooms remain locked, secure, and kept clean and tidy.
- Supervise and monitor subcontractor works during maintenance activity.
- Complete all assigned tasks in line with Health & Safety requirements.
- Maintain awareness and compliance with contractual KPIs and SLAs.
- Keep the Computer-Based Maintenance System (e.g., Maximo) up to date, ensuring accurate closure of PPM and reactive tickets.
- Operate the Permit to Work System in accordance with BGIS or approved client processes.
- Carry out any additional tasks as required by the site management team.
- Ensure engineering teams produce near-miss reports, dynamic risk assessments, and detailed site activity records, escalating any non-compliance.
- Proactively check and ensure compliance with the LOTO system.
- Monitor and control building environmental conditions using the BMS to maintain acceptable internal conditions.
Qualifications & Experience:
- Must hold a Level 3 qualification in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering (e.g., C&G, NVQ, BTEC).
- Experience in building services, HVAC, mechanical or electrical maintenance.
- Strong fault-finding and diagnostic skills across M&E systems.
- Good working knowledge of building management systems (BMS) and permit-to-work processes.
- Experience working in a client-facing environment.
