Department: Commercial, Data & Technology Legal
We are seeking a commercially focused lawyer to join our Legal team in London. This is an opportunity to support the European, Middle East and APAC wholesale brokerage businesses of BGC, GFI, Aurel and Sunrise, as well as the global FENICS technology businesses.
The role offers broad exposure to a fast-paced, international financial services environment, with significant stakeholder interaction, autonomy and responsibility. You will work closely with front-office, technology and operational teams, advising on a wide range of day-to-day commercial and business matters.
Responsibilities
- Draft, review and negotiate a broad range of commercial and financial-services documentation.
- Provide practical, commercially focused legal advice to internal stakeholders and business management.
- Manage legal documentation efficiently, balancing competing priorities and business deadlines.
- Advise on agreements including:
- Terms of Business and brokerage rates agreements
- Commission-sharing, netting and introducing broker agreements
- Confidentiality agreements
- Technology, software licence and services agreements
- Intra-group agreements, bank guarantees and engagement letters
- Clearing, custody, collateral and marketing agreements
- Support the Corporate Legal team where required, including due diligence, confidentiality arrangements and document reviews.
- Contribute to business and corporate projects, including new-office launches, internal reorganisations, joint ventures and regulatory change initiatives.
Experience and skills
- English or Commonwealth-qualified lawyer with approximately 3β4 yearsβ PQE.
- Strong financial-services experience is essential.
- Experience advising on commercial contracts, ideally within a financial institution, broker, trading firm, technology provider or law firm with relevant clients.
- Exposure to compliance, intellectual property, structured products or derivatives would be beneficial.
- Strong drafting, negotiation and stakeholder-management skills.
- Able to communicate legal advice clearly, concisely and commercially to non-legal colleagues.
- Comfortable working independently, taking ownership and managing multiple priorities in a demanding environment.
- Experience with document-management systems would be useful.
