We are looking for an experienced and dependable Senior Warehouse Operative to support the smooth running of day-to-day warehouse operations. The successful candidate will take a hands-on role in receiving goods, stock control, picking, packing, dispatch and housekeeping, while also supporting the Warehouse Supervisor or Manager with team coordination, training, quality checks and maintaining high standards of accuracy, safety and productivity.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead by example in all day-to-day warehouse activities, including goods-in, stock movement, picking, packing and dispatch.
- Receive, unload and check incoming deliveries against paperwork or system records, ensuring discrepancies are reported promptly.
- Support the Warehouse Supervisor or Manager with organising workloads, prioritising tasks and helping the team meet daily operational targets.
- Provide guidance, support and on-the-job training to warehouse colleagues, including new starters where required.
- Check picked and packed orders for accuracy, quality and presentation before dispatch.
- Monitor stock locations, rotation and storage standards to ensure goods are organised safely and efficiently.
- Carry out regular stock checks, investigate variances and support inventory control activities.
- Use handheld scanners, warehouse management systems or paperwork to maintain accurate records.
- Load and unload vehicles safely, following site procedures and ensuring goods are handled correctly.
- Identify and report damaged, missing or incorrect goods, equipment issues, hazards or process concerns.
- Promote good housekeeping standards and ensure the warehouse remains clean, tidy and free from hazards.
- Follow and reinforce all health and safety procedures, including manual handling guidance and correct use of PPE.
- Operate warehouse equipment such as pallet trucks, trolleys or forklift trucks where trained and authorised.
- Work closely with colleagues, supervisors and other departments to resolve issues and maintain efficient workflow.
- Undertake any reasonable additional duties required to support warehouse operations.
Skills and Experience:
- Previous experience in a warehouse, logistics, distribution, production or stock control role is essential.
- Experience supporting, training or guiding colleagues in a warehouse environment is desirable.
- Strong attention to detail and a high level of accuracy when handling stock, orders and records.
- Good understanding of warehouse processes, stock rotation, inventory control and dispatch procedures.
- Ability to organise tasks, prioritise workload and work effectively under pressure.
- Reliable, punctual and able to set a positive example for others.
- Good communication and teamwork skills, with the confidence to escalate issues when needed.
- Basic numeracy, literacy and computer or scanner skills.
- Comfortable with physical work, including standing, walking, lifting and moving items during a shift.
- Forklift, counterbalance or reach truck licence is desirable where relevant.
Health and Safety
The Senior Warehouse Operative must take responsibility for their own health and safety and help promote safe working practices across the warehouse team. This includes following company procedures, reporting hazards, using equipment correctly, wearing required PPE, supporting safe manual handling practices and encouraging colleagues to maintain site safety standards.
Working Conditions
The role may involve shift work, early starts, late finishes, weekends or overtime depending on business needs. The role involves regular physical activity, including lifting, carrying, bending and standing for extended periods. The warehouse environment may include varying temperatures, moving vehicles, machinery and busy operational areas.
