As part of the transition to a Group Clinical Services structure within Bristol NHS Foundation Trust, there is an increased expectation of cross-site working. Although roles will have a designated base, post holders are likely to be required to work across multiple Trust sites in line with service needs. Where this is not included in the initial job plan, any future requirement arising from the departmental restructures will be addressed through the job planning process. Travel time will be taken into consideration in line with contractual expectations.

Bristol NHS Foundation Trust is offering an exciting opportunity to join one of the largest, progressive radiology departments in the UK at Southmead Hospital Operating Unit (SHOU), a major teaching hospital, Level 1 Major Trauma Centre, and key tertiary referral centre serving the South West. This substantive Consultant Radiologist post offers a broad, high-volume and clinically diverse abdominopelvic imaging practice, supported by exceptionally close multidisciplinary working with gastroenterology, hepatology, colorectal surgery, upper GI surgery, hepatopancreatobiliary (HPB) surgery, urology, oncology and emergency care teams. The abdomino-pelvic radiology team works closely with nationally recognised endoscopic services, including advanced therapeutic endoscopy/ complex polypectomy/ capsule endoscopy and double-balloon enteroscopy.

Applicants should have a CCT or be within six months of achieving this at the date of interview or be listed on the GMC’s specialist register to be eligible for application for a substantive post. CESR applicants are welcome and must have their CESR in place at the time of interview.

This is an exciting opportunity for an enthusiastic radiologist seeking a rewarding subspecialty practice within a supportive, forward-thinking department, while maintaining exposure to a wide spectrum of acute, tertiary and trauma imaging within one of the region's largest diagnostic services.

The role provides exposure to a wide spectrum of complex pathology, including colorectal cancer, HPB, inflammatory bowel, complex pelvic including mesh and exenteration planning, as well as acute GI radiology. Radiologists at SHOU are integral members of a strong MDT culture and play a highly valued role in clinical decision-making. There are excellent opportunities to contribute to and shape patient pathways through close collaboration with a range of tertiary services, including support for image-guided intervention and specialist body ultrasound services.

SHOU offers a stimulating academic and educational environment, with strong links to the University of Bristol and University of West of England, as well as hosting the largest cohort of radiology residents in the Severn Deanery, thereby providing excellent opportunities for teaching, supervision and educational leadership.

The postholder will have close working relationships with the whole Radiology team including Consultants, Radiographic and associated support staff whilst also developing extensive collaborative links with colleagues within all associated specialties. Teaching and Training are an integral part with rotating radiology trainees and subspecialty training. A formal job plan will be reviewed between the Post Holder and Specialty Lead within three months after commencement in post. The exact timetable will be flexible, arranged in discussion with the Specialty Lead. The job plan will be reviewed prospectively and at least annually. This will be a positive agreement that sets out a consultant’s duties, responsibilities, and objectives for the coming year.
