Consultant Neurologist in Neuromuscular (2 posts) in Bristol

As part of the transition to a Group Clinical Services structure within Bristol NHS Foundation Trust, there is an increased expectation of cross-site working. Although roles will have a designated base, post holders are likely to be required to work across multiple Trust sites in line with service needs. Where this is not included in the initial job plan, any future requirement arising from the departmental restructures will be addressed through the job planning process. Travel time will be taken into consideration in line with contractual expectations.

An exciting and unique opportunity has arisen for two new Consultant Neurology posts, with interest and expertise in Neuromuscular Disorders, to work in the South West, based in Bristol NHS Foundation Trust (or a different place in the region if preferred as a base). These posts are part of the South West Neuromuscular Operational Delivery Network, a nationally recognised network of excellence, which provides care for people living with Neuromuscular conditions in Bristol, Somerset, Devon and Cornwall. Bristol NHS Foundation Trust is a leading centre for patient care in the South West and one of the largest hospital trusts in the UK.

These posts will involve the diagnosis, management and care of people living with Neuromuscular Disorders, their families, and carers. This includes a range of conditions, for example muscular dystrophies, neuropathies, CIDP and myasthenia. A range of treatment options, including genetic modifying therapies, are established. The service is multi-disciplinary, supported by Neuromuscular Care Advisors, Specialist Physiotherapists, and a Specialist Psychologist. The post holders will join the team in providing an education programme for professionals and patients. These posts will both provide outpatient clinics in Bristol and Plymouth. One of the posts will provide clinics in Truro (12 clinics or 6 days per year) and one post will provide clinics in North Devon (12 clinics or 6 days per year).

The South West Neuromuscular Network is the only Neuromuscular Operational Delivery Network (ODN) in the UK and one of a growing number of ODNs in the South West. The network is funded by NHS England to provide regional services throughout the South West. This post provides a fantastic opportunity to join a well-established and highly motivated, dedicated team, working within a holistic framework of a network model of care. The role of Consultant Neurologist with interest and expertise in Neuromuscular Disorders will contribute to the existing services in Bristol NHS Foundation Trust and will lead these services across the South West Neuromuscular Operational Delivery Network. Clinics will be based in Devon, Cornwall and Bristol.
