The BFI is looking to engage an experienced corporate and industry PR consultant to join its busy PR team for an interim period. The role will communicate the BFI’s work to support the UK screen sector with a focus on independent film - from filmmaking and exhibition through to growing audiences across the UK. The role will also support the BFI’s vital inclusion work, its mission to grow the next generation of filmmaking talent through skills and education initiatives, developments around sustainability and the technical innovations that are transforming the sector. While not essential, experience within a public sector environment would be advantageous. The role is a fantastic opportunity to work with a dynamic and fast-paced comms team for the UK’s lead organisation for film, television and the moving image.

Project Outline

  • To support the industry press and comms team to deliver day-to-day comms activity, with a focus on media and stakeholder management, across the following areas:
  • BFI Skills and Workforce Development - including BFI National Lottery funded activity through the Skills Fund, Skills Clusters, BFI Film Academy, and act as the PR contact to support partners including WorkWise for Screen, Into Film, National Saturday Club, ScreenSkills and Creative UK, plus supporting wider strategic aims/policy interventions from the directorate.
  • BFI Audiences - including BFI Film Audience Network, Escapes, Audience Projects Fund, and supporting wider strategic aims/policy interventions from the directorate.
  • BFI Inclusion work – funded or centrally delivered events, activity at festivals and other relevant activity.
  • BFI Filmmaking Fund and Talent Development – specifically BFI NETWORK, Future Takes, Creative Challenge Fund, comms liaison with BFI Doc Society Fund.
  • BFI Knowledge, Learning & Collections – Screen Heritage Fund and BFI National Lottery funded education activity including liaison with funded partner Into Film.
  • Sustainability – including BFI National Lottery funded Sustainable Screen activity.
  • Innovation / AI / Co Star – supporting the BFI’s role in the Co Star project, handling reactive media opportunities around AI.

The role will report into Senior PR Manager Corporate and Industry.

We are looking for candidates who:

  • At least 5 years experience (manager level) in a corporate / industry PR and communications role within the film sector.
  • Excellent written and verbal communications skills.
  • Experience of dealing with, and existing contacts with, sector specific trade media (film, television).

The successful candidate will be paid a fee up to £225 per day for work completed. Payments will be agreed against set objectives throughout the course of the contract.
