We are now open for applications for our Summer 2026 Work Experience programme, for people aspiring to be journalists across social media, website, radio and video platforms. BFBS Forces News provides editorially independent news to UK Armed Forces around the world and the wider civilian audience interested in military and defence news.
What you can expect:
- Two weeks' work experience at BFBS HQ in Chalfont St Peter, Buckinghamshire, with dates to be agreed in July, August or September
- You'll spend time across news and sport, including with our social media, website, radio and video teams
- Opportunities to create content for broadcast or publication, supported by our team
- A newsroom mentor, to oversee and guide your experiences around the newsroom
- The work experience is unpaid, but reasonable travel expenses will be covered
What we are looking for:
- People who are studying journalism to NCTJ or degree-level, or have recently graduated from the same
- Individuals who are interested in military and defence stories, and who are interested in BFBS
- Someone who is enthusiastic, ready to contribute ideas and demonstrate creative story-telling
- Applicants must be over 18. Unfortunately, we are unable to support under 18 placements.

- Radio news – learning to write radio voicers and sound-rich packages
- Sport – joining our sports team at live-stream events and promoting them
Applications for the programme close on Friday 12 June 2026, and shortlisted applicants will be contacted before the end of June, to do a short video interview as part of the selection process.
