Electronics engineer with proven experience in automotive and/or motorsport environments, and expertise in sensor technology (including pressure, temperature and humidity), wireless systems (notably 2.4GHz), and systems-level electronic design. Responsible for developing high-reliability electronic hardware for safety-critical and performance-driven applications, collaborating closely with embedded software and product engineering teams.
Key Responsibilities
Electronics Design & Development
- Design and development of bf1systems products, ensuring compliance with all relevant requirements, specifications, and legislation (including ESG expectations).
- Drive the selection, integration, and validation of electronic components, with a focus on reliability and performance in harsh environments.
- End-to-end electronic system design, including schematic capture, PCB layout, prototyping, and validation.
- Design and develop hardware, including RF circuits, power management, and signal conditioning.
Product Lifecycle Support
- Maintain and support existing electronic designs, implementing improvements where necessary.
- Lead and support projects through APQP processes, including FMEA reviews and risk assessments.
- Collaborate with manufacturing teams to ensure DFM/DFT and smooth transition to production.
Testing, Validation & Documentation
- Develop Design Verification Plans (DVP) for hardware validation, including bench and vehicle-level testing, collaborating with cross-functional teams to meet technical and compliance specifications.
- Write clear, concise technical reports for investigations, testing outcomes, and engineering reviews.
- Maintain accurate documentation throughout the design and development process, adhering to company standards.
Problem Solving & Continuous Improvement
- Investigate and resolve hardware-related issues, including production customer and concerns.
- Proactively identify opportunities for process and product improvements.
Additional Duties
- Participate in training and development activities aligned with personal, departmental, and company objectives.
Knowledge, Skills & Experience
- Demonstrable experience with sensor development, integration, and testing in automotive or motorsport applications.
- Extensive experience in electronic circuit design, analysis, and troubleshooting (analogue and digital), including transceiver level design for CAN/CANFD.
- Proficiency in schematic capture and PCB layout using industry standard design tools.
- Ability to produce accurate technical documentation and detailed investigative reports.
- Minimum BEng in Electronics Engineering or equivalent appropriate qualification.
- An understanding of RF design (433MHz, 2.4GHz) and EMC/EMI considerations and mitigation in hardware.
- Ability to perform fault diagnosis to component level and drive root-cause analysis.
- Experience with design for manufacturability (DFM) and design for testability (DFT) in electronics.
- Familiarity with circuit simulation tools, advanced PCB technologies (e.g., Flex, Rigid/Flex, HDI) and data acquisition systems in motorsport or automotive environments.
- Strong analytical skills to interpret and understand complex data sets.
- Familiarity with embedded software as it relates to hardware integration and validation.
Preferred Requirements & Experience
- Evidence of working closely with technical experts in software and systems disciplines.
- Hands-on approach with attention to detail in a technically challenging environment.
- Exposure to embedded software design and development is an advantage.
- Motorsports/Automotive industry experience within a TS16949 environment is desirable.
