Formed in 2018 following a merger, we are a forward-thinking organisation committed to helping our customers and communities succeed and thrive. We are proud to hold a G1/V1 regulatory grading, reflecting the highest standards of governance and financial viability within the sector.
With a strong presence across seven local authority areas and more than 800 colleagues, we remain rooted in our communities and focused on delivering high-quality homes, services and living spaces. Guided by our values of being Considerate, Collaborative, Ambitious and Accountable, we work every day to create safe, well-maintained neighbourhoods and places where people feel proud to live.
As we deliver our corporate strategy for 2025 to 2030, strengthening customer experience, building new and investing in existing homes are our key priorities, alongside our ambition to achieve a C1 grading under the consumer standards.
The opportunity: We are seeking a Non-Executive Director with expertise in asset management to join our Board. This appointment comes at an important time for Beyond Housing’s journey, as we look ahead to the next phase of our strategy including increased emphasis on strategic asset management, stock investment, regeneration and sustainability. We are therefore looking to strengthen our Board with an individual who can bring deep insight into asset performance within a regulated environment.
As a member of the Board and Investment Committee, you will provide independent oversight, support and constructive challenge across key areas including new build schemes, stock condition, major works programmes, procurement, and contractor management to help ensure our investment decisions deliver long-term value for customers and communities. You will join a high-performing, collaborative and high-values led Board, playing a key role in shaping strategic decisions and ensuring we continue to deliver safe, high-quality homes and services for our customers.
Key responsibilities include:
- Promote a strong customer focus, ensuring asset decisions lead to safer homes, and improved outcomes for residents.
- Provide strategic oversight and constructive challenge on asset management, property and investment-related matters.
- Support the development and delivery of Beyond Housing’s asset management and investment strategies, ensuring alignment with the corporate plan.
- Bring insight into stock condition, lifecycle planning, sustainability and regeneration priorities, including EPC and net zero ambitions.
- Provide guidance/insight/challenge on procurement, contract management and service performance, particularly across large-scale maintenance and investment programmes.
- Contribute to effective governance through participation in Board and Investment Committee meetings.
- Support the organisation in navigating an increasingly complex regulatory and compliance environment.
- Act as a critical friend to the Executive Team, ensuring decisions are robust, evidence-based and focused on long-term value.
We are looking for an individual who has the following attributes:
- Significant senior leadership experience in asset management, ideally within the social housing sector or a similarly regulated industry.
- Experience of managing complex property portfolios, with a strong understanding of asset performance and risk.
- A proven track record of ensuring homes are safe, compliant and of high quality, meeting customer needs and expectations.
- Strong understanding of stock condition, major works programmes and lifecycle planning, including financial planning across multiple budget cycles.
- Knowledge of strategic asset management, investment prioritisation and sustainability, including EPC and net zero considerations.
- Experience of overseeing or delivering major refurbishment, regeneration or capital investment programmes, with a clear understanding of building safety requirements.
- Experience of working with or overseeing large-scale contracts and contractor performance.
- The ability to interpret complex data and provide clear, strategic insight and challenge.
- Strong judgement, independence of thought and the ability to manage risk effectively.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to engage constructively at Board level.
- Previous Non-Executive experience is welcomed but not essential.
We are looking for an individual who can bring valuable expertise alongside a collaborative, values-led approach, and who shares our commitment to providing high quality and services for our customers.
Time commitment: This is a part-time, non-executive role requiring attendance at:
- Quarterly Board meetings (held in person).
- Investment Committee meetings.
- Strategy sessions, site visits and occasional additional engagements.
Meetings are typically held in person during the day (1–4pm), on a quarterly basis, with additional meetings as required. Remote attendance is available if needed, and candidates should be able to commit to the required time.
