Join us as a Project Archivist at Bettys and Taylors Group. Our family business is home to three iconic Yorkshire brands – Yorkshire Tea, Bettys and Taylors of Harrogate. An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced archivist to join Bettys & Taylors Group on a fixed term basis for 18 months. It’s expected that the role will suit someone looking for part time work, 3 or 4 days a week, but we’re also happy to consider full time work for a shorter time frame. Please note that this role is not suitable for remote candidates, as on-site collaboration will be required.

The role will suit an archivist with experience of archival rationalisation, cataloguing and collections development. You’ll be responsible for leading on the review and rationalising our existing archive catalogue, including assessment and adjustment of legacy reference systems, as well as developing and implementing practical cataloguing approaches for physical and born-digital archive materials. Reporting into our Archivist, you’ll play a vital role in operationalising our new cataloguing management software and bringing our cataloguing up-to-date while improving consistency, control and ease of retrieval, developing and implementing a programme of digitalisation, and supporting other archival work as required, including research, development of finding aids and heritage collateral.

To be successful you’ll need to be able to demonstrate:

  • A recognised qualification in archive and records management or equivalent professional archival training.
  • Experience of using specialist archival cataloguing systems and delivering substantial cataloguing, rationalisation or arrangement and description projects involving complex or legacy collections.
  • Ability to work independently to develop and deliver a fixed-term programme of work, identifying interdependencies, targets and key milestones.
  • Excellent problem solving and analytical skills, including the ability to identify patterns, inconsistencies and risks within complex catalogues or datasets and propose practical solutions.
  • Knowledge of archival principles and practices, including but not limited to access management, information rights, data protection, digital preservation and organisation.
  • Strong communications and relationship-building skills.

What we offer you: As a minimum, all our employees receive free meals, drinks and snacks while at work, a discretionary quarterly profit-share bonus, holiday allowance with the option to buy and (in some cases) sell additional days, company-wide employee discounts, access to our health cash plan, wellbeing support, company funded counselling, and enrolment in the company pension. We also offer a range of development opportunities no matter your role and ambitions. We encourage everyone to explore what makes them the best version of themselves, and we do this through external training programmes, apprenticeships and internal 1:1 coaching schemes.
