About Outpost
Global expansion is broken. Without a local entity, conversion rates fall, costs rise, and compliance gets messy. Outpost fixes it. Selling internationally is a maze of tax, payments, and operational friction. Most brands avoid it or expand slowly and expensively. Outpost is your modular back office for global commerce. Pick only what you need (tax, payments, treasury, or operations) and unlock new markets without the overhead. Sometimes we act as Merchant of Record, taking on tax and compliance risk. Other times, we give you the tools to do it yourself. Sell anything, anywhere. Without compromise.
The Role
At Outpost, Operations means problem-solving at scale. We tackle the company's toughest challenges with speed, precision, and creativity. We design systems that unlock efficiency and power global growth. We're looking for a junior generalist to work inside that engine. You'll be attached to real initiatives across the business - product, onboarding, market launches, finance, GTM - and you'll own concrete pieces of them end to end. Not shadowing, not note-taking: workstreams with your name on them, from day one. This is a generalist role. You'll value breadth over depth. One week you're cleaning and modelling market data, the next you're running the checklist for a country launch, the week after you're sitting in merchant calls and turning what you heard into a product requirement. If you want to stay in one lane, this isn't for you. You'll work directly with the founding team. If you're hungry, you'll compress years of learning into months. Most people wait a decade for this proximity. You'll have it in week one.
What You'll Do
- Product: Sit close to merchants and the market, and feed what you learn back into the product roadmap. Help scope features: gather the pain points, size the opportunity, write the first draft of the spec. Track product performance and competitive positioning, and keep the team honest with numbers.
- Operations & GTM: Run and improve processes across onboarding, compliance, and merchant operations. Support new market launches: own the checklist of legal, tax, payments, and operational steps and drive it to done. Join customer conversations, prepare the materials, chase the follow-ups that keep deals moving. Write the playbooks and documentation that let us scale without adding headcount.
- Finance & Strategy: Build and maintain the models behind unit economics, pricing, and market planning. Keep KPI tracking and reporting clean, current, and trusted. Support the prep for investor updates and board materials.
Example Projects
- Build the first-draft financial model for a new market entry: entity costs, tax rates, payback period.
- Run a merchant through onboarding end to end, document every friction point, and propose the fix.
- Turn our EU VAT compliance steps into a playbook anyone on the team can execute.
- Track and analyse competitive positioning against other MoR platforms, and keep the battle card current.
- Debug a delayed payout across engineering, ops, and compliance, and write up the fix so it never happens twice.
- Take a manual weekly process, automate it with scripts or no-code, and retire it.
What We're Looking For
- Ideal background: 0-2 years of experience, or exceptional straight out of university. Internships or a first role in high-growth fintech or tech, consulting, banking, or a startup of any kind. STEM or quantitative degree preferred, but not required if you can demonstrate analytical horsepower. Evidence you've built, run, or fixed something real: a project, a business, a system, an analysis.
Signals we care about:
- Ridiculous bias for action: you solve, not observe.
- Analytically strong: comfortable in a spreadsheet, curious about SQL, allergic to unquantified claims.
- AI-native by instinct: you reach for Claude, scripts, and no-code to do in an hour what takes a day, and you can tell good output from plausible rubbish.
- Precise: in this business a mistake can go to a regulator or a merchant. You check your work before anyone asks.
- Strong EQ: you know how to read a room, a customer, or a blocker.
- Exceptionally hard working: you see work as a core part of your purpose.
- Fluent in ambiguity and chaos: startups are not neat, this will be hard.
- Curious and resourceful: you can figure anything out.
- Clear, quantified achievements on your CV (not vague descriptions).
What this role is not:
- Not an internship where you watch: you'll carry real workstreams with real deadlines.
- Not a single-function track: you won't specialise in year one, by design.
- Not for someone who needs defined processes and hierarchy to be effective. You'll often be building the process.
Why This Role Is Different
Most junior roles teach you one function inside a machine someone else built. This one puts you inside the room where the machine is being built, across every part of the business: product, finance, GTM, operations. You'll work directly with a founding team that has done this at scale before. You'll ship things that matter in your first month. And the ceiling is real: we expect whoever takes this role to grow fast, and we'll back you every step of the way.
What We Offer
- Ability to own your work and move fast.
- World-class training from operators who've scaled globally.
- A global mission with real impact.
- Low politics, high output.
- A culture of builders, not talkers.
Working Style
We work together in person in London. We believe the hardest problems are solved in the room.
How to apply
No cover letter. Send us: (1) something you built, with a link; (2) one line on which of the six areas you'd automate first, and how; (3) bonus - pull a public dataset or feed and send a one-screen dashboard.
Outpost is where the hard problems are. If you want to help build the engine behind global trade, we'd love to hear from you.
