Better Society Capital (BSC) - the UK's leading social impact‑led investor - is establishing its first dedicated Middle Office, and we’re partnering with Trinity House Group to look for a strategic, hands‑on leader to build and embed it on a 12 month fixed term contract. If you’re energised by building something new, shaping how an organisation operates, and doing it all with purpose at the core, this is the kind of role that doesn’t come around often.
This is your chance to step into a fast‑paced, expanding organisation where operational excellence directly fuels social change. BSC has already helped grow the UK social impact investment market twelve‑fold to over £10bn, backing organisations tackling homelessness, mental health, fuel poverty and more. Now, as the business scales, the Middle Office will become a critical engine for performance, risk, valuations, reporting and operational rigour.
Why this role matters
You will be the driving force behind designing and implementing a brand‑new function. This isn’t about maintaining the status quo - it’s about shaping the future. You will work across Investment, Finance, Data, Transformation and external partners to create a seamless, high‑performing Middle Office that supports BSC’s mission and growth.
What you will lead
- Contributing to the design, development and implementation of BSC’s new Target Operating Model, ensuring Middle Office processes and capabilities align with future organisational needs
- Overseeing valuations, transaction processing, performance reporting and risk MI
- Leading system implementation and optimisation (including PMS/IBOR)
- Strengthening governance, controls and decision‑making frameworks
- Managing fund operations cycles and maintaining the Fund Operations Process Manual
- Acting as the central interface across Investment, Finance, Transformation and external partner
- Driving continuous improvement and operational excellence across the investment lifecycle
- Hiring, developing and mentoring a high‑performing Middle Office team as the function grows
As the function matures, this role is expected to evolve into full accountability for Middle Office, with representation at Senior Management Team level.
What you will bring
- Strong operational leadership in financial services
- Experience across middle office and/or fund operations
- A track record of system implementation and process design
- Confidence navigating regulatory requirements
- Relationship‑building finesse and stakeholder management strength
- A rigorous, analytical mindset paired with clear communication
- A genuine connection to BSC’s values: purposeful, pioneering, open, rigorous and respectful
- Experience with listed investment trusts or social impact is a bonus, not a requirement.
Because your work will matter. You’ll be part of a mission‑driven organisation that combines the pace and ambition of a growing investment business with the heart of a social impact movement. You’ll have autonomy, influence, and the chance to build something lasting.
And if you don’t tick every box? Apply anyway. BSC welcomes people who bring curiosity, drive and potential.
If you’re ready to shape a new function, elevate operational excellence, and contribute to meaningful social change, this could be your next big move.
A base salary of £85,000 - £100,000 is offered plus benefits for a 12 month fixed term contract.
Trinity House Group is leading the recruitment for this role within Better Society Capital. Please reach out to Lauren de Quincey if you’d like to discuss the role in more detail, or would like to request a copy of the candidate pack.
