My client is looking to recruit an experienced Technical Solutions Manager for their office located in Kent. Working within the principal design and engineering authority and responsible for the full technical lifecycle of solutions delivered by the businesses Project Services business. The role is a People Manager to lead a technical solutions tower of specialists spanning across design engineering, product support and technical coordination within the energy business, including high and niche solar power, rechargeable batteries and nuclear power. You will be setting the engineering standard for everything within the design, build and maintenance of the assets. This is an enjoyable and rewardable role as you can see the end product make a real difference to the customer. The organisation is rapidly growing; some elements of the role may change in the future. It’s important you are adaptable and happy working within a changeable environment. There is hybrid working on offer, two days in the office and three days working from home every week. Once established in the role, this can become more flexible. Duties
- Act as principal design authority for all solutions provided by Project Services (metering, systems, settlement and operational solutions)
- Develop, implement and continuously improve engineering and design guidelines alongside the specialist technicians
- Own and maintain the standard design library
- Act as the final technical authority on design decisions, exception handling and customer specific engineering challenges
- Work closely with the Project Delivery Manager to ensure design outputs are buildable and achievable, to factor in time and cost
- Own the technical roadmap
- Oversee evaluation of potential new products or technologies relevant to the market
- Lead or support customer conversations where relevant and to continuously support the sales team
- Lead, develop and manage the technical solutions tower by setting clear objectives, conducting regular one-to-ones and managing performance
- Mentor and encourage the team and identify career development and training requirements
- Support the Head of Project Services in the delivery of business plans, contribute technical insight
Experience
- Degree educated is essential – preferably in Electrical Engineering
- A minimum of 4-5 years People/Team Management and leadership experience
- Experience working with energy metering/power systems or electrical substations and high voltage products
- Strong background in electronics, electrical engineering or similar, ideally in a product development or systems engineering environment
- Good understanding of the electricity supply industry and grid infrastructure
- Solid understanding of high accuracy metering solutions
- Solid understanding of product safety standards including UKCA compliance
- Working knowledge of Cybersecurity/products and solutions security
- Awareness of IEC 62443 Cyber Security standard is highly desirable
- Previous experience in earlier career of being a technical designer or engineer
- Previous experience of AutoCAD designs
- Experience and knowledge of Waterfall and product management
- Aware of product investment cycles and the value of assets
