About the Job

The Claims & Labelling Coordinator is responsible for the development of the Better Cotton Initiative (BCI) Claims Framework, helping to drive demand for cotton produced under the BCI standard and strengthen BCI’s value offering. The role plays a key part in building long-term commitment and support for BCI’s mission from members, certified organisations, consumers and other relevant stakeholders.

The Challenge

Looking ahead to 2030, we are targeting reducing GHG emissions from cotton production by half, big cuts in synthetic pesticide use, improve soil health across our network, improve farm income and support women’s empowerment among farmers and farm workers.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinating the development and continuous improvement of the Claims Framework and related documentation.
  • With the support of the Claims team lead, project manage the revision process for the Claims Framework and labelling guidance, ensuring alignment with market trends, regulatory requirements and internal BCI developments.
  • Conduct public consultations to ensure the Claims Framework and labelling guidance remains relevant and effective which includes coordinating internal and external public consultations including retailer and brand member-specific sessions.
  • Monitor the relevance and effectiveness of the Claims Framework and its requirements based on established internal and external feedback and market intelligence and identify areas for improvement, ensuring our claims and BCI Cotton label remain an effective tool for driving demand for BCI Cotton.
  • Work with external legal counsel to ensure claims and label requirements and processes adhere to regulatory and legal requirements for Sustainability Claims & Labels in main jurisdictions of operation.
  • Ensuring the Claims Framework & Management System remain ISEAL Code Compliant.
  • Maintain alignment with ISEAL requirements by coordinating necessary updates to the Claims Framework and claims management system.
  • Engaging with Members and Industry Groups on Green Claims.
  • Respond to technical questions on claims internally or externally, and support internal teams with the delivery of resources for the implementation of the claims offering as needed.
  • Matrix management of a Claims Officer.

Experience the following skills, knowledge, and experience:

  • Experience with Sustainability Communications and Marketing in B2B and B2C contexts and preferably in the textile industry.
  • Understanding of legal requirements and market needs for sustainability claims both for brands as well as supply chain organisations.
  • Strong project management skills: Capable of coordinating complex projects and managing deadlines and competing priorities effectively.
  • Effective multi-stakeholder management and coordination skills: Ability to facilitate alignment and consensus among diverse opinions and stakeholders.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication abilities: Proficient in both internal and external messaging in English, capable of drafting documents and communication pieces targeted at different audiences.
  • Analytical skills combined with holistic thinking: Ability to design pragmatic solutions while considering the big picture.
  • Familiarity with corporate sustainability reporting requirements and green claims legislations.
  • Proven understanding and/or experience with Voluntary Standards Systems.
  • Other languages are an asset.

Working arrangements

The position is full-time (40 hours per week) and will be based in our London office. Better Cotton Initiative offers flexible working, with core hours being 10 am – 4 pm. The position will require international travel.
