Sporting Solutions is a product led, technology-driven company that sources, generates, and distributes real-time sports betting data. Our systems operate under tight performance demands: low latency, high throughput, and ongoing reliability. We are working to continually improve our platforms and are evolving our infrastructure and applications — including moving from legacy .NET Framework systems toward modern, containerised .NET 8/9 services running on Kubernetes in both on-prem and cloud environments.
We are looking for a Principal Software Engineer with a DevOps mindset and deep software engineering experience, especially in .NET. This is a hands-on, leadership role where you will help shape the technical vision and engineering practices across the organisation. Leading through example and building Proof-of-Concept solutions to demonstrate improved practices will be key. You will work at the intersection of software architecture, DevOps strategy, and high-performance infrastructure, driving forward our modernization efforts and improving how we build, deploy, monitor, and scale our systems.
What You’ll Do
- Define and shape our DevOps vision, working closely with senior engineering, infrastructure and existing DevOps teams.
- Lead our migration efforts from legacy .NET Framework apps to .NET 8/9, containerised and orchestrated with Kubernetes.
- Champion best practices in software delivery, CI/CD, observability, and infrastructure-as-code.
- Drive improvements in telemetry and observability, helping us move from log-centric metrics to first-class telemetry using OpenTelemetry and modern observability stacks.
- Optimise for performance, helping the platform scale for low-latency, high-throughput demands in real-time sports data delivery.
- Mentor and guide engineers, promoting a strong DevOps culture and fostering collaboration across teams.
- Architect and implement solutions that span software and infrastructure, balancing resilience, scalability, and maintainability.
What We’re Looking For
- Proven experience as a Senior or Principal Engineer in both software and DevOps contexts.
- Strong .NET software engineering background.
- Deep expertise in Kubernetes (on-prem and cloud) and Terraform.
- Experience with real-time, event-driven systems and message brokers (e.g., RabbitMQ, Kafka).
- Strong grasp of telemetry, observability, and performance monitoring in distributed systems.
- Track record of technical leadership and setting engineering standards.
Nice to Have
- Experience with OpenTelemetry, Prometheus, Grafana, or similar observability tooling.
- Exposure to hybrid-cloud or cloud migration strategies.
- Familiarity with performance optimisation in low-latency data pipelines.
- Contributions to DevOps-related communities, blogs, open source, or talks.
What You’ll Get
- The opportunity to shape the future of DevOps and Developer Experience within an innovative, high volume-growth, data-centric company.
- Freedom to influence architecture and tooling decisions.
- A collaborative, pragmatic engineering culture focused on excellence.
- A domain which offers continual learning opportunities and a plethora of engaging technical challenges.
What we offer
- Competitive annual leave package that increases with length of service + day off for your birthday!
- Hybrid working – 2 days a week in the office.
- Company contribution to discounted gym scheme.
- Vitality health care for you and your household.
- Competitive yearly performance bonus.
- Enhanced maternity and paternity leave.
- Access to discounts for online shopping.
- Cycle to work scheme.
