We have an exciting opportunity for a Highly Specialist Speech and Language Therapist to take on the role of Practice Education Facilitator (PEF) in East area of BCUHB, 1 day a week (0.2 WTE). This is a fixed term contract for 12 months to cover maternity leave. The PEF Band 7 role facilitates and supports quality placement provision, linking in with relevant Cardiff Metropolitan and Wrexham University Speech and Language Therapy programmes.

Core role elements:

  • Creating the conditions for quality placement learning
  • Facilitating placement capacity and innovation
  • Supporting professional regulation and practice

Main duties of the job

  • Ensuring the appropriateness of placement allocations.
  • Facilitating placement capacity indicated in the HEIW Annual Placement Plan.
  • Consolidating and sustaining existing practice learning environments.
  • Scoping new and innovative practice learning opportunities and enabling placement capacity solutions.
  • Supporting staff understanding of new digital education platforms.
  • Organising key stakeholder events for learners, practice and education staff to share best-practice.
  • Promoting awareness and engagement on policy changes impacting on practice learning.
  • Championing and embedding organisational changes in response to regulatory body standards.
  • Engaging with relevant partners to deliver practice educator preparation.
  • Escalating concerns to AEIs relating to students’ sickness, absence, and professional behaviour.
  • Representing placement providers on regulatory body standards development work.
  • Contributing to the ongoing development of the PEF role through annual reports for relevant stakeholders.
  • Contributing to organisational arrangements for the preceptorship of new registrants.

The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this post; English and/or Welsh speakers are equally welcome to apply.

Qualifications

Essential criteria

  • Recognised qualification degree / equivalent in S<
  • HCPC registered
  • Post graduate study relevant to clinical area at Masters level or equivalent demonstrable experience at Level 7.
  • Able to demonstrate continuing professional development e.g. up to date, relevant CPD portfolio.
  • Clinical supervisory experience

Desirable criteria

  • Membership of appropriate clinical network group
  • Other professional or academic qualification which relates to clinical practice
  • Accredited Practice Placement Educator Certificate

Experience

Essential criteria

  • Significant experience clinically in area of specialism
  • Experience of clinical leadership
  • Experience of delivering clinical education in area of specialty
  • Experience in service development / improvement.
  • Delivering Practice Supervision
  • Contributing to Student training

Desirable criteria

  • Experience of lecturing externally
  • Experience of project management
  • Additional clinical or health care related experience
