An exciting opportunity has arisen for a motivated and enthusiastic Registered Nurse to cover a busy surgical/medical escalation ward.

Samaritan is looking for a highly motivated individual who thrives in fast-paced environments and wishes to contribute to our vision of providing compassionate nursing care. We are seeking to recruit a deputy ward manager who can make a difference with their dedication and expertise whilst upholding the trust's values and behaviours. We are a friendly department with a positive ethos and strong nursing leadership.

As Deputy Ward Manager you will support the Ward Manager by providing management and leadership of the ward including administration and the overall co-ordination, assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of programmes of care and the setting and auditing of standards of care to ensure excellent high quality care is delivered at all times. Applicants need to have a sound knowledge of clinical, leadership and managerial skills. Be able to demonstrate the ability to support with leadership as well as work within a team: to supervise, nurture and develop the knowledge and skills of staff.

Main duties of the job

All applicants must be a Registered Nurse, with recent experience at Band 5 and meet the Band 6 Job Description person specification. Experience in both pathways is essential for this Senior Nursing post holder.

Applicants will also be required to undertake Mentorship of Student Nurses and preceptorship of newly qualified nurses whilst assisting the ward sister in managing Samaritan Ward, and ensuring that the Fundamentals of Care are maintained to a high standard.

The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this post; Welsh and/or English speakers are equally welcome to apply.

Qualifications

Essential criteria

  • NMC Reg Nurse
  • Evidence of a Degree level qualification or working towards this within an agreed time frame.
  • Evidence of CPD Holds or is actively working towards a relevant Post-graduate Diploma, Diploma to be completed within an agreed timeframe.

Desirable criteria

  • Management Qualification or experience
  • Mentor/supervisor/assessor/

Experience

Essential criteria

  • Significant experience of working either within the clinical speciality or a relevant nursing role .
  • Ability to demonstrate application of improvement methodology.

Desirable criteria

  • Experience of working in a multidisciplinary team setting.
  • Experience/knowledge of senior nurse role

  • Ability to communicate and receive complex information
  • The ability to diagnose a problem and take corrective action
