We are recruiting a Band 6 senior staff nurse to work within the 12‑bedded Critical Care Unit at Wrexham Maelor Hospital. Betsi Cadwaladr University Health Board operates three sites with 33 critical care beds, delivering care for all unscheduled and surgical specialities. The unit aims to provide safe, high‑quality care and a positive patient experience. You will represent the Trust in delivering nursing care in line with BCUHB values, treating all staff, patients, families, and visitors with respect and dignity.

Main Duties of the Job

  • Ensure a high level of patient care throughout the unit.
  • Actively participate in and supervise patient care, manage unplanned admissions, and maintain accurate staffing levels.
  • Lead the unit in the absence of senior management.
  • Supervise and develop junior team members.
  • Communicate clearly, maintain calm problem‑solving, and foster continuous improvement and learning.
  • Keep the department organised and professional at all times.

  • Diploma or Degree in Nursing
  • Advanced Life Support or willingness to undertake Post‑Registration Course relevant to critical care area
  • Mandatory training up to date

Desirable Criteria

  • Management qualification IQT Bronze / Silver

Experience

Essential Criteria

  • Significant post‑registration experience
  • Significant experience in Band 5 critical care
  • Management experience

Desirable Criteria

  • Experience of research, audit work, and standard setting

  • Advanced clinical skills/knowledge relevant to area of expertise
