The Professional Nurse Advocate (PNA) role is an exciting opportunity for a nurse who is passionate about supporting the wellbeing, development and supervision of nursing colleagues. The aim is to ensure that all Community Nurses and District Nurses across Flintshire and Wrexham Community Nursing Services have access to PNA support through a continuous quality improvement approach.

The post holder will work alongside District Nursing Matrons and Team Leaders to support the strategic delivery of the PNA programme. This includes leading and coordinating PNA activities and facilitating restorative clinical supervision for Community Nurses.

You will act as a role model and ambassador, promoting staff wellbeing, empowerment and professional development while supporting the delivery of high-quality patient care and quality improvement initiatives. Through restorative clinical supervision, you will help nurses identify personal actions for quality improvement, career development and resilience, enabling them to support both their own wellbeing and that of their colleagues.

Main duties of the job

You will possess strong leadership skills to co-ordinate the delivery of supervision, training and restorative clinical supervision (RCS) across Flintshire and Wrexham. You will be knowledgeable about national healthcare governance policies and ensure these are reflected in practice.

You must have experience in report writing, using Excel, PowerPoint and other IT software. You must be able to demonstrate experience of conducting audits and participating in continuous quality improvements. You must ensure a robust process in place for responding to feedback from nurses, to ensure the voice of the nurses is heard and acted upon accordingly.

You must use effective communication strategies and influencing skills to achieve the desired outcomes and make appropriate referrals for advocacy and mediation. You must have the knowledge and confidence to escape any serious patient safety, safeguarding or personal concerns through the appropriate channels.

The development of internal and external networks will be crucial to the success of the PNA role and achieving effective outcomes for individual nurses, service users and the organisation.

The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this post; English and/or Welsh speakers are equally welcome to apply.

Quallifications and/or Knowledge

Essential Criteria

• Registered first level nurse
• Evidence of study at post graduate level
• Evidence of Post Graduate Diploma in relevant nursing / health subject
• Education to Masters level or equivalent level of knowledge, training and experience
• Relevant nursing / health degree or equivalent
• Professional Nurse Advocate qualification or will to work towards
• Evidence of completion and delivery of student support and preceptorship, must have completed the practice Assessor and Supervisor training
• Post nursing qualification experience
• Evidence of continuing professional development & revalidation Knowledge and understanding of key guidance & principles underpinning the Professional Nurse Advocate role
• Knowledge & experience of patient safety, clinical risk & safeguarding issues in practice & awareness of supporting legislation & guidance Knowledge of professional accountability

Desirable criteria

• Masters level degree qualification or equivalent level of qualification or experience
