Applications are invited for the post of Clinical Fellow in Sleep and Ventilation and Medical Education based within the Department of Respiratory Medicine and the medical education department at Wrexham Maelor Hospital. This post is ideal for a senior respiratory trainee with a keen interest in Sleep and Ventilation, but would also be suitable for someone who has completed Core Medical Training considering a career in Respiratory Medicine or hoping to gain more experience. It will provide the perfect platform to hone and develop skills in Sleep and Ventilation. You must hold full registration with the General Medical Council and we encourage applications from trainees currently holding a respiratory training number. MRCP or equivalent is essential.

Detailed Job Description And Main Responsibilities:

  • Assessment and management of patients requiring acute NIV in Wrexham Maelor Hospital.
  • Taking part in the assessment and initiation of patients commencing domiciliary NIV on Acton ward and in an outpatient setting.
  • Undertake a clinical research/audit project over the 12-month period.
  • Develop databases/resources that allow robust data collection in relation to the investigation of sleep disordered breathing.
  • Attendance at one sleep clinic per week, one sleep MDT per fortnight and one NIV clinic per fortnight.
  • Attendance at UHA one day per fortnight in the Aintree Sleep clinic and the VIC.
  • The post holder will have a regular schedule of teaching commitments and will actively contribute to the development and delivery of the Medical and Dental Education’s Undergraduate, Postgraduate, Physician Associate and Widening Access education programmes.

  • Actively engage in developing and implementing innovative projects and strategies aimed at improving the quality, effectiveness and relevance of medical education programmes.

Qualifications

Essential criteria:

  • MB ChB
  • MRCP / equivalent
  • Formal educational qualification

Desirable criteria:

  • Higher degree/degree in medical education
  • Possession of NTN in Respiratory Medicine
  • Formal educational qualification
Experience

Essential criteria:

  • Respiratory Medicine experience (minimum 2 years)
  • Evidence of interest in and experience of teaching
  • Evidence of positive feedback on teaching approaches

Desirable criteria:

  • Track record of high quality peer-reviewed publications.
  • Development of teaching programmes
Skills

Essential criteria:

  • Competence in the management of acute respiratory failure with Non-Invasive ventilation.
  • Ability to identify staff and students who are struggling and adapt teaching accordingly.
  • Effective communication skills, written and verbal.
  • Effective organisational skills and good multi-tasking ability.
  • Computer literate, familiarity with MS Office package.

Desirable criteria:

  • Some experience or knowledge of the principles of good clinical practice (GCP).
  • Team player.
  • Experience in the management of Sleep Disordered Breathing.
