A vacancy has arisen for a Clinical Endoscopist to work within BCUHB North Wales. You will be responsible for diagnosing benign and malignant gastrointestinal conditions, performing diagnostic Upper Oesophageal-gastro-duodenoscopies (OGD), colonoscopy, and flexible sigmoidoscopy on sedated and non-sedated patients, and managing your entire caseload through nurse-led clinics, with support from gastroenterology consultants. We are seeking an experienced, fully trained, independent and JAG-accredited Clinical Endoscopist with evidence of a JAG portfolio and certificate, and a Masters in the relevant field or committed to completing a Masters Degree within the next three years. This role offers personal and professional development opportunities within the organisation, including our JAG national training centre and a personalised educational plan.
Main duties
- Work independently and unsupervised as an expert Advanced Practitioner in performing diagnostic Upper Oesophageal-gastro-duodenoscopies (OGD), colonoscopy and flexible sigmoidoscopy on sedated and non-sedated patients.
- Manage your caseload through new and follow-up nurse-led clinics for patients presenting with gastrointestinal symptoms, with support from Gastroenterology Consultants.
- Exercise advanced levels of clinical judgement, discretion and clinical decision making, and be responsible for diagnosing and planning appropriate patient management.
- Undertake holistic assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of programmes of care, reflecting the standards and targets of the British Society of Gastroenterology, Joint Advisory Group and GRS.
Requirements
Eligibility and experience:
- Registered healthcare professional (NMC or HCPC registration or other relevant registration, e.g., PAMVR)
- Masters level education in advanced practice and/or endoscopy
- JAG accredited endoscopist
- Independent prescriber (to be achieved within 18 months of commencing the post)
- Overall understanding and nursing knowledge of gastrointestinal and colorectal nursing
- Evidence of professional/service development
- Sound experience of working within the endoscopy environment as a senior clinician
- Experience of JAG/GRS implementation
- Ability to prioritise workload and direct colleagues
- Ability to manage time effectively
- Ability to work within a large multidisciplinary team
- Ability to adapt to a changing working environment
- Confident IT skills
- Experience working as a JAG-accredited endoscopist (desirable)
Essential qualifications
- Registered healthcare professional: NMC, HCPC, or other relevant registration (e.g., PAMVR)
- Masters level education in advanced practice and/or endoscopy
- JAG accredited endoscopist
- Independent prescriber (to be achieved within 18 months of commencing post)
Desirable qualifications
- Mentoring/Teaching qualification
- JAG Train-the-Trainer course completed
- Non-medical radiology referral certification (working towards)
- Member of JAG ENDO faculty
- JAG Accredited endoscopist (currently)
Additional abilities
- Essential: Ability to cope with patients under extreme stress, both from clinical and social circumstances.
- Desirable: Ability to speak Welsh.
